Default Things needed for header install...

If there is already a thread somewhere about this, please feel free to post a link. I'm getting ready to do a header install and I just want to make sure I wont be missing anything when it comes time to install them. I will be removing air/egr. I have a stock ls1 manifold. The headers will be race headers with a race ORY. What all should I look at replacing and what are some good websites to get them at. My list so far includes:

New Plugs
New Wires
New Front O2's
O2 Extensions
Gm Header Gasket
Intake Block Off Plate

If you can think of anything else please add to the list. Also for my above list, what sites should I be looking at to purchase these things. Thanks for all the help!

I'd recommend ARP stainless steel header bolts or studs >>summit

I think that's it.

plugs and wires from 99BlancoSS a member here>>ccperformanceparts.com <<<I believe that's the site ngk and msd wires cheap

gm gasket at the dealer or gmpartsdirect

intake block off plate on ebay

Poly Motor Mounts.

It's so much easier to install them with the exhaust manifolds outta the way. Plus you're gonna be pissed when your new ORY is banging on your floorpan due to the factory rubber mounts flexing.

A lot of time.

Im in the middle of doing mine right now and just got the headers on, gettin ready to put on my TSP catted Y. Took me about 3 hours to get all the stock **** off friday night.

I worked on it today for about 7 hours taking breaks and running into problems. I had to take my steering shaft out and but the casting notch off the block and it took me FOREVER to get the damn shaft back in...almost an hour.

This is doing it by myself. Not my first header install, but first on an LS1...its a F'in PITA if you keep the air/egr.

A little tip that took me a while to figure out, get the passenger manifold completely loose before trying to take the lower EGR hose bolts out. Makes it a lot easier.

Good Luck !

This is what I did, very long time ago:

1. 02 Extensions
2. Stage 8 header bolts
3. New gm Gaskets
4. Egr block off and gasket (removed it)
5. Smog pump block off and gasket (removed it)
6. Water plug to block EGR hole in ls1 intake
7. MSD wires
8. Spark plugs
9. Vinci tuner for 97-98 ls1 ecu.
10. Glass's, all kinds of rust and dirt are going to get in your face.
