Default Finally got rid of rasp

I finally got rid of rasp.

Before mod:
ARH 1 7/8 long tubes with catted ARH merged y pipe back to a Magnaflow stainless catback.

For me way too loud with terrible rasp between 1800 and 3000 rpm.

I welded on two Magnaflow 2 1/2 inlet and outlet mufflers to the existing 2 1/2 magnaflow exhaust pipes. I also welded on two Magnaflow stainless slashed extensions.

For me the car is the best it has ever sounded and rasp is gone completely. I don't wake up the neighbors now on cold starts.

Note: this muffler is straight through with perforations (almost identical on the inside as Dynomax bullets).

That looks awesome. Good job, man. Do you have any sound clips? A before and after would be great.

Sorry - don't have access to a video camera for video or sound.

Note: I had purchased two Dynomax bullets but wasn't sure if they would be quiet enough even though they look identical to the insides of the Magnaflows.

But they aren't stainless like the Magnaflows so opted to try the Magnaflow instead since the Magnaflow stainless extensions matched up perfectly at the weld point. He did not have the dual Magnaflow Corsa type outlets in stock so opted again for the single outlet style.

These are 18 inch. A 14 might be a little bit louder.

Looks Great I am with you I hate the rasp with my Magnaflow Catback. How much do you think the catted y pipe helps with the rasp?

None at all. I switched from coated JetHot longtubes and non-catted y pipe and the Magnaflow to ARH stainless lts and with ARH stainless cats y-pipe because everyone said the cats would get rid of rasp.

Did the ARH cats get rid of rasp? Not at all. The rasp actually got worse after installing the ARH cats and ARH lts compared to the JetHots lts with no cats.

So to try to get of rasp, I added the 2 Magnaflow 18 inchers aft of the Magnaflow.

Sequence:
Jet Hot lts and non-catted ory + Borla catback - terrible rasp.

Jet Hot lts and non-catted ory + Magnaflow catback - rasp but not as bad as Borla.

ARH lts with catted ory + Magnaflow catback - rasp worse than Jethots

ARH lts with catted ory + Magnaflow catback with Magnaflow bullets - no rasp.

Note:

The Dynamax bullets I have would probably have gotten rid of the rasp too - but not stainless.

No offense to ARH at all - high quality and fitment for sure.

I'm not sure, but I think your just covering up the rasp instead of getting rid of it. From what most on here say, is that the merge at the Y is the cause of the rasp, or at least most of it. Something like the Flowmaster merge usually gets rid of it. Thats why it got worse when you went the the ARH. The merge is different from the Jethots.

Yep. When I got my custom y done with Jet Hot LT's and Magnaflow exhaust my rasp went away. Car sounded a lot different.

Dude this is crazy. I have the exact same exhaust set up as the op had (1-7/8 arh w/ catted y and magnaflow cb) and I have zero rasp and am very quiet ! I have h/c too ! Now i used to have 1-3/4 hookers w/ ory and it was way louder with wicked *** rasp at around 2k.

Agreed.
The rasp and machine guns sound is caused by where the two pipes converge. These additional two mufflers are just better able to mask it.

When I went TD's, all that crap was totally gone.

Its a very subjective thing.

However, in general, most guys with f-bodies, LT's, ORY and no cats do complain about rasp.

if anything the magnaflow seems to have a smooth, crisp sound imo. true definition of rasp is LT's, ORY + LOUDMOUTH.. that is rasp!!
