Headers or Intake?
For the OP's question, add me to the list of guys that would (and in fact did) do headers. Stock with an SLP catback exhaust and 3000 converter, the car ran 14.20's (don't bad mouth, I'm in Utah, high elevation FTL!). After removing the AIR and EGR and replacing the stock exhaust manifolds with Kooks race headers and off road y-pipe, I picked up 5 tenths and ran consistent 13.70's on spinning street tires. 5 tenths is a damn good increase if you ask me.

Forgot to add I read this ls1/ls6 book on our engines and they said midtube headers are better for a stock engine long tubes are for H/C /FI an so on.

Headers first though. Think of it like breathing in and out, and all of the sudden taking in way more air and still only being able to move it out slowly. Same principle.

If you don't want it louder you should look into like a magnaflow catback or something to go along with it because it will get louder, esp. If you get a catless Y pipe. Since you have the lm2 already you should just try it, you might like it.
