I'm going to have to disagree with this comment as well. If this theory were indeed correct, my car would have slowed down in the 1/4 when removing the stock exhaust and replacing it with headers.

For the OP's question, add me to the list of guys that would (and in fact did) do headers. Stock with an SLP catback exhaust and 3000 converter, the car ran 14.20's (don't bad mouth, I'm in Utah, high elevation FTL!). After removing the AIR and EGR and replacing the stock exhaust manifolds with Kooks race headers and off road y-pipe, I picked up 5 tenths and ran consistent 13.70's on spinning street tires. 5 tenths is a damn good increase if you ask me.

O yeah! headers are addictive its a must, but look at it like this is pot good for us no, is hanging out in the streets after 12:00 am good no no an no so everything that's good to us is really bad just an example butyou understand.

Forgot to add I read this ls1/ls6 book on our engines and they said midtube headers are better for a stock engine long tubes are for H/C /FI an so on.

I would go headers first. We can get you setup with a set of Pacesetter LT headers to get you up and going and maybe save you some cash to put toward your intake down the road. We should have them on the shelf! Let me know if we can help!

I picked up 40 rwhp with headers and an ls6 intake.

Headers first though. Think of it like breathing in and out, and all of the sudden taking in way more air and still only being able to move it out slowly. Same principle.

Exhaust first, then intake. The intake would be choked by the exhaust if done first and would not be that same gains.

What's with people's car getting quieter with headers? I've owned 3 cars that I have personally swapped the headers on and helped 2 friends swap headers on their car and each one has been MUCH louder than before. On my z06 with borla catback, before the headers I cut the cats out, it got pretty loud, but when I put the ORX and long tubes on, it was on a whole nother level. Same goes for my budy with a lt1 bird, he had a slp LM, we swapped on the headers and it is WAY louder. Rest were on old cars but the same applies.

If you don't want it louder you should look into like a magnaflow catback or something to go along with it because it will get louder, esp. If you get a catless Y pipe. Since you have the lm2 already you should just try it, you might like it.

Thinking now that when I do headers I will also add the SLP Powerflo addition with my LM2. Hopefully this will quiet it down some with a non catted Y.

definately headers i'd recomend 1 3/4 primaries if the engine will be mainly stock for a while the 1 7/8 can rob a bit of the torque curve

Headers..... in theory they make more sense to me because you should focus on getting the flow out of the motor a little ahead of getting more flow into the motor. And they will give you a little more power compared to just an intake on a stock motor.
