Default Homemade coil relocation setup?

I'm not sure if this is the correct section?

But i'm pretty sure some of you guys have relocated your coil packs without buying an expensive kit. If so, how did you do it and what did you use? posting pics would be helpful!

i've never done it, but i understand you have to buy LT1 wires, maybe the "universal type" where you put on your own ends. the LT1 wires have the correct coil ends to put on LS1 coils. other than that, i think most people put the coils under the cowl, some in the inner fenders. i'm sure more will chime in to give placement ideas. you also may have to lengthen the wire harness to reach the coils. good luck!!!!

There are kits that do this easily, but were looking for a way to do it ourselves on the cheap... 99bloncoss on here sells the wires cheap, but the kit is pretty expensive for what it is..

Wouldn't be too difficult, my coils sit on a single piece bracket already, just unbolt that and relocate it where i'd prefer, then drill two holes and bolt into new area. Cost.. the price of four or so new nuts, washers, and bolts, a metal (or any if bolting to plastic) drill bit, zip ties (or something to group the wires), and new wires that will span the distance.

Under the cowl would probably be the best place, just have to take the plastic piece off around the windshield wipers.

I haven't done this yet, but it'd be the way I'd go about it without having to buy a kit.

Default loseing power

don't you lose power w/ the longer wire?

shorter wire has less resistance so spark event happens quicker.

Yea you lose like 15rwhp...

No but really, its an insignificant difference from what I have heard/ seen... if it actually made a difference you wouldn't see the top drag cars around running them..

Years ago before there were any kits someone did the under firewall mod and had a good writeup which worked for me.I don't know if you could search back that far on this site or other LS1 sites or if they even keep stuff that long.Might try a Yahoo search and see what you can find.

I used some Taylor 10.5mm wires for a Vette and some 5/16" threaded rod and spacers. This is what I came up with. Sorry about bad pic quality.
