Sell the BBK SSI for a FAST setup?

don't waste your money on a stock cubed engine unless you find a sucker who will pay a large amount for your intake and you can score a FAST for $500 or under and a tb for under $150
your current intake is already supposed to be a little better than the ls6
if anything look for a deal on a used 85mm tb and call it good...otherwise IMO you might end up paying a lot of money for 5-10hp
you would be better off putting heads on during the cam swap with the extra money you would have tied in a FAST

I agree with thunderstruck507, it would probably be better to spend it on heads then the intake. I really like the way the BBK SSI looks, alot better than the FAST.

Yeah, nitrous would be fun but I want to get a cam in the spring first. It should be close to or more than 400 rwhp with the streetsweeper cam with the BBK setup.

I made 45x with a bbk, 232 cam, and home ported 5.3 heads. Made 410 with same stuff but a z06 cam.
My BBK was ported to clean up the casting and i was still using the 80mm tb.
Get the 85mm tb and clean up the inside of the intake. You will be happy as long as it doesnt leak

I found the one on New Era for $329. I have seen them as low as $250 for a new 85mm one.
Studderin, how much did your FAST help you at the track vs the LS6 you had on there?

check my post, I dont remebed were but I posted it a few times, will all the info you can use.
best was 11.12 or 11.27 with the LS6/ported TB, on slicks. 11.35 on stock/DRs. (404 whp or whatever when I tested the intkes)
went the 10.66's lighter weight, and good fall DA. so can't use that to compair really.
But went 11.25 or a 11.29? on stock/DR wheels. Went 10.8s and some 10.70s on the slicks in fall air. I'd say normally should run 11.1s 10.95s most good days now on slicks with the 92/92 and spool other little changes. I'm changeing things for next year now too
Hate to say this but check Egay for the TB, thats what I ran, you can't beat the price, You can port it too, still has a lip.

It's your money, buy what you want. My point was just this. Why spend more money on the bbk (new tb, port job) thats will cost 500+. You are just digging yourself in a whole with it. Sure youll have better gains now. But that investment wont be returned, not even a 50% if it when you try to sell it. When you add in the price you paid for your intake + a new larger tb + a port job, you are close if not exceeded a fast 90 90 price.
Look at it this way. When people ask what size headers they should get ( 1 3/4'' or 1 7/8''). Most of the times these are stock cubed and minor bolt on cars. People always tell them to get the smaller size. Why? I dont know. Theres been many of Dyno comparisons showing that the larger header, even on a bolt on car is better up top by more then the amount that you lose down low. Which is a minimal lose down low that you will never never never notice. But you will notice the gains up top. Plus the bigger header give you room to grow into a bigger cubed engine down the road.
Without having the need of selling and losing a couple of hundred on them. Then you have to make up the couple of hundred to buy the bigger headers.
Eventually you will want to sell the BBK, I would do it now and go for a fast. Fast are alot more affordable these days. I just saw a Mamofied FAST 90 90 for 900 go in the classifieds.
This is my advice based on my view point. Something to think about.

I am pretty much convinced to sell the BBK and get the fast, vengeance has the 92 with the NW tb for 1179. I am already thinking about switching it so I should just do it. I should be Able to get 350 for my intake and then sell my stock tb for 50

do what you want, but at least buy a used fast...you'll regret buying new when you don't gain anything you can feel
by my best educated guess I gained ~20rwhp with a ported fast 90/90 over the stock 98 ls1 intake, if I hadn't got it so cheap I would have been pissed...
since you will have to be tuned for the cam anyway tuning for the heads will be easier now IMO and if you still decide to blow the money on a FAST later a tune wouldn't be as necessary
Fast intakes are good, but they are IMO overpriced and people put them on a pedestal as some kinda holy grail mod
you will be damn lucky to get 10rwhp for your $1200 over what your are running now...subtract $400 for selling it and you still have $800 for that power
my $800 would be going for a set of heads that should get you 20-30+rwhp that will also come in handy on a better future engine
let me put it this way...would you spend $800 on an underdrive pulley? $800 for a tune? $800 for a cutout? because you are talking about the same gains, just those mods don't have the "mystique" of a FAST intake
just my $.02 and I'm sure some will disagree

If have 325 for the bbk intake, then 350 for the bbk tb so 675. I can get the fast for 1150 shipped with the fast tb. So its another 500 which is kinda a lot but if I do heads eventually, it will help to have the fast. I just think in the future once I do the cam I will be wishing I had the fast on there.

just so you know the fast TB is junk and the blade hangs really bad unless you work it over pretty good
the fast stuff is getting cheaper used, and that's unlikely to change...they might even continue to slide down later
still don't understand any logic in paying $1100+ for something you can get for $5-700...it's not a wear item
just trying to save you some grief, wish someone had done so for me...but I just fell into the hype and had to have it
I only have about $500 into my FAST 90/90 after selling my stock crap and that's just enough to keep me from serious buyers remorse

I hear ya thunderstruck, I just like to do it right the first time and if that means not buying the BBK 85mm TB so I can get the FAST then i will have to do it. I know alot of people on here sell there cars after a couple years but I plan on keeping mine to give to my kids.
I believe the FAST TB has been fixed now

you can get the 85mm TB for $180. I still think, and know the BBK will be more then enogh for you unless going for a top 10 cam only car or somthing. Or you get some really good heads, and cam setup making 475+ whp
Don't you still have a stock 10bolt, stock cam, suspention on the car still. You sound like you wnat to be talked into getting a "better" fast 92 setup.
But after you do it, then what? Your up 6whp over what up have right now, spending a LOT of money on it. But you still have a bunch stock parts that need to be upgraded. I would hate to see you drop the coin on the 92 setup, get a good cam in the car. In spring and 2 weeks of driving the 10bolt dies. There are 50 other places of a lot more performance to gain, then getting a fast92 setup right now.
