Most oil filters changed height because the media used is better with more pleats so you don't need as big of a filter. Its cool if you use really any filter every 3k miles but the expensive ones are better for longer service intervals. I have always used Delco with my Z and lately have been using the Mobil 1 filter since it is included with the Mobil 1 oil change specials at Advance Auto Parts. 29.99 usually for 5 qts and a filter, just add one more quart and you are good to go.

How are the Purolator PurOne Filters?
I have been using the filter that is listed for the 5.3 which is a little longer and supposedly holds close to an additional 1/2 quart of oil. I read about this someowhere on LS1Tech.

The filter listed for the Camaro is:
http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/...artnum=PL14006
Specifications:
Anti-Drain Back Valve Yes Height 3.36
O.D. 2.98 Relief Valve P.S.I. None
Thread Pitch UNC-2B Threads 13/16-16
Type of Filter Spin-on

The filter I have been using is:
http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/...artnum=PL25288
Specifications:
Anti-Drain Back Valve Yes Height 4.02
O.D. 2.98 Relief Valve P.S.I. None
Thread Pitch UN-2B Threads 13/16-16
Type of Filter Spin-on

Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to get back to this. Real life stepped in.

Im all out of filters for my truck, but Ive a couple for the old Focus still. The number for the Focus which was a 2001 M5 with a Zetec is TY15591.

Its a JD branded box, but on the under side it says MANUFACTURED FOR JOHN DEERE & COMPANY MOLINE ILLIOS 61265 MADE AND PRINTED IN USA.

The filter itself is kinda heavy duty feeling. Also, its painted simple white, and the identifying label is actually a sticker, not painted on info like most filters.

I hope this helps.

I've noticed no one ever mentions about STP oil filters. Are they rare or hard to get? There a good oil filter.

stp filters are "ok" in quality.... for a daily. I've had one physically collapse on my firebird before, so that's a hell no for it. Been using bosch, m1 or k&n ever since. I can't find wix filters for nothing around here.

So far all I see is opinions stating AC Delco no longer produces a quality oil filter. Does anyone who is claiming this have any actual proof or data to backup their statement?

What makes Wix, Champion, K&N, Mobil 1, ect., a better oil filter than AC Delco?

If no one can answer these questions, I see no reason to spend over $5 for an oil filter that performs no differently than my Delco, which has never failed me, and costs less than $4.

The new design looks like an STP to me from the top (inlet)

This was a study done a while back that shows how bad Fram Filters are

I usually try to use Bosch but STP is the cheapest I go. I avoid fram and any oil filter made by them.

I've heard that Wix makes the NAPA filters too. Also the big thing I heard with the Delco filters and why I switch was a lot of counterfiet Delcos are on the shelves now and that the cheap elements breakdown and the paper and stuff goes through the motor. So I've switched to NAPA or Mobil 1.

Default oil filter

I have been using the wix , napa gold and purolator pure one in all 3 of my performance cars. For around 6 dollars these 3 brands i mention above are by far the best bang for your money. Take a look at the link i came along so that you can see THE INSIDE of what some of you have been installing in your car ...

BAD Priced around 3 dollars
FRAM is by far the worst of them !!!!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfj9KUv0pKY

VERY GOOD Priced around 6 dollars
Heres the WIX filter wich is the same as Napa Gold and Purolator PURE One.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BQha9MSM-U

THE BEST YOU CAN GET TAKE A LOOK AT THE FILTERING MEDIA, THAT IS THE BEST YOU CAN GET. CHECK IT OUT Priced around 15 dollars

Hope this helps open some peoples mind about a filter is just a filter. Hope you guys like the info and good luck with your next oil change........

I like what's said/shown about FleetGuard in this one:

Side note here: The Fleetguard filters with 5 digits after the "LF" are better than the ones with 4 digits as shown in the youtube video. All Fleetguard filters have a cotton-y gauze-y like material between the pleated media and the metal screen.

Awesome. Thats the kind of information I was looking for. Thank you.

Although I would like to see an AC Delco subject to the same breakdown these filters have been put through. Maybe I'll just have to experience that first hand with one of the filters currently out in the shop.

Very good, gentlemen. Again, thank you.

The "correct" listed Fleetguard filter fo a LS1 F-Body is the LF797. They have no "upgrade" version of it.

The filter I use is for a pickup truck and is a little bit longer. It's their LF16104 which is an upgraded version of the standard filter for the truck, the LF3945. To clarify which Fleetguard filter is better, here's a page from their upgrade catalog page.

I also use the longer filter than the stock size which in Delco was PF46. I do have a few crossover #'s for the stock size as well as the longer ones I use.

Delco: Stock = PF46, Longer = PF61
Mobil1: Stock = M1107, Longer = M1206
Napa Gold: Stock = FIL1042, Longer = FIL1522
K&N: Stock = HP-1007, Longer = HP-2006

I use the longer ones on both my Camaros as well as my Silverado (same filter), but I no longer use Delcos.
