I think one of the magazine articles claimed over a 20rwhp gain over an LS6 intake on a stock motor and over 24rwhp on a modified one (or was it 16 on a stock motor and 20 on the modded one?) but that could just be manufacturer's hype.

That's what I'm waiting for, all the excess LS6 intakes (both new and used) left over at blowout prices after this thing comes out (and if it pans out that is).

If it's only worth 5rwhp out of the box over an LS6, that really doesn't mean it's a bad intake if it can be ported so that it keeps the bottom end and improves the top end as the Colonel mentioned.

The LSX is supposed to have extra material for porting and disassemble to allow for porting.

Out of the box results are not what this intake is about IMO. It may do well out of th box...but it's true potential won't be know until it's port match to specific heads. Heads that flow 315 cfm on the bench and flow 290 thru the LS6 intake, could be able to flow ~310cfm with a port matched LSX thru the intake.

That should be worth a nice gain.

I heard the LSX is worth 18 flywheel hp over the LS6. That's about 14 - 16 rwhp. I have no idea if that was ported or unported.

The real trick with this intake might be to have it ported so some of the older heads that loose 50cfm with the LS6 intake, can flow ~280-290 cfm with the new LSX intake. It would save many the cost of a heads upgrade and that would make a nice market segement for the LSX in additon to the others. IMO.

I think their are way too many folks with LS1 intakes out there and truck intakes out there for the used LS6 intakes to get dirt cheap.

One other question...

Anyone know if the LSX intake will fit under a shock tower brace?

The comparison was done against a LS1 manifold not an LS6.

Even if it netted you an additional 15 hp (hypothetically) it still isn't worth 800 dollars.

Depends on how bad you want 15rwhp. If a EWP's that are worth 5-8 rwhp for $$50 to $500 or so...I image this intake will sell for $800 if it's worth 15rwhp

as I have said before..no shop has recieved a "test" piece..the only shops that had test pieces were the ones that were doing the origional testing for comp/fast..after testing was completed, the units were shipped back to comp/fast..the new manifold doesent sit any higher than the stock intake..and it has been tested on a varity of cars and set-ups

Doesn't sit higher? Really, I'm surprised to learn that because there is a recess in one of the intake runners for the cross over of the fuel rail on the LSX. It looks fairly deep. I don't recall seeing this recess on the LS6 intake for the fuel rail. This suggested to me the LSX sits a little higher than the LS6. Since the rail doesn't need a recess on the LS6 and the groove looks a few ~1/4 inch deep, I thought the LSX might be ~ 1/2 inch higher than the LS6.

I agree. The preprodction piece I saw at Bristol wasn't tall enough to interfere with any STB I've seen.

Lol...you guys act there is a big LSX conspiracy going on here. I would love to get one in...I'd put a car on the dyno and install it within a couple hours just to feed my curiousity. I really don't think too many people have one.

Where are you getting this done, what exactly is being ported (intake, heads, or both), and how much, if you don't mind?

Jay at Absolute was the only one I knew of to "customize" his S2+ heads so they flow better WITH the ls6 intake on. IICR his numbers (direct testing) were about the same as you mentioned.
