It uses o-rings to seal the connection and you're screwing them into aluminum, so those bolts really don't need to be tight at all. I know how you feel though, I've done the same thing with the pickup tube bolt on my oil pump... stripped it out and had to tap a larger hole.

It's better to start off with them too loose than too tight. I think the best approach would be to just tighten them a little, and if it leaks, tighten them a little more. You want to tighten it just enough to prevent it from leaking.

But it's your call Looping the lines would work.

I am going to add an oil cooler. How reliable is this? I love using trick parts, but my car is a daily driver. Is there an oil cooler you would recommend?

I haven't heard of any failures yet. It's perfectly reliable for a daily driver. I don't really have any specific recommendations for an oil cooler. Get something that suits your application and it's worth it to pay for a little more for a higher quality cooler.

Don't have any pics of it hooked up at the moment.

The routing is very simple. The port on the side of the adapter is the feed and the port on the bottom is the return. You can just route the lines directly to your oil cooler and back.

Not yet... we're going to install one on our shop car, but we still don't have a cooler. Sorry

In the meantime, can you tell us what the width (how far it sticks out from the block) of this piece is? I've poked around the internet looking for overall dimensions, but came up short...I'd like to see if this will clear my 1-7/8" headers since things are already a little tight around there.

Dimensions: Approx 3.63" (w) x 2.75" (h) x 1.50" (d) (main block), 4.50" x 4.50" x 1.50" (including fittings). Spacer adds 7/16" to depth.
So if the spacer is required for your pan, it will stick out by about 2" total.

Good deal. I am interested also. Since my block has been filled up to the water pump ports to support the 4.07" bore my main oil galley is no longer cooled by the engine coolant.

Okay, got it in the mail. I have a Derale stacked oil cooler. Do I need to prime it some how? Or just bolt it all together, fire it up and after it hits 190 degrees or so top off the oil?

The thermostat doesn't completely shut off oil flow to the cooler, it just reduces it, so you will still have oil flowing through the cooler even when it's closed. You may want to pull the fuel pump fuse and crank the engine over a few times before starting it the first time, to build up pressure and to allow the cooler to fill up with oil. Then top off the oil level and start it up.

Adding an oil cooler should not cause lower oil pressures (assuming the diameter of your lines are appropriate).

It will fit the pan, you just have to verify that it clears your headers. For guys with little header clearance, we're working on an extra slim non-thermostatic adapter.

No, it won't work with front-sump oil pans like the GTO and Monaro or LS1 Commodore.

However, we are releasing an oil cooler adapter specifically for those cars next week. It will be the only adapter that works with front-sump oil pans. Check our website late next week for photos and info.
