Default 3" true duals vs 2.5" true duals

Okay, so I have a good deal pending on 2.5" true duals. I hear that for all but the wildest setups, 3" is not necessary and I won't lose power. Is this true?

Also: will sound quality suffer? Common sense says 3" will sound better/deeper, but is that true?

Thank you, experts

#1- True. You might actually have better low-end to mid-range torque with the 2.5" also.
#2- That is a personal judgement call. The 3" should be a bit louder though. Muffler choice and exit location will have more impact on sound.

Well, by "better" I really mean "deeper..." I plan on using flopro twisters for the mufflers. Not sure on exit location yet.

I'm running 3" duals.
Let's just say that I gained pretty much everywhere. I was surprised to see how much response I got down low.
Anyhow, I don't know what the treshold in terms of rwhp is when 3" would be beneficial over 2.5", but I'm very pleased with 3".

Oh, my setup is SLP LT's, gutted cats, 3" X, 3" Flowtech Afterburner mufflers, dumped at the axle.

I have an all 3 inch setup. A couple of exhaust places told me that it is a good idea to keep the pipe the same size as the collector up until the crossover. Dropping to 2.5 after that will have little effect on performance.

2.5" is what you want unless you plan on making over 500hp. You'll have better low end torque. I have a set for sale in the classifieds. My car sounds like a big block..... DEEP and RUMBLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can email me jeffharmon70@hotmail.com for pics.

So the consensus seems to be that I won't really lose out with 2.5" in terms of sound, and in terms of power I stand to gain. Sweet.

Thanks for the offer Jeff, but I'm working with a local shop that I have a family "in" with.
