Default Is it wise to re-use the stock gaskets for Long Tubes?

As the title says... is it wise to use the stock gaskets for Long tubes?

Times are hard and like everybody out there, I'm trying to save wherever I can.

I'm thinking of buying some used Hooker LT's for my 2000 Ls1 and I was just wondering if it was a good option.

Thanks!
Joel

As long as it's in really good shape it should be no problem.

i just installed hooker longtubes on my 2000 z28 and re-used stock gaskets with no leaks....they went in like a breeze took me and a buddy about 3 hours...make sure on the passanger side you use shorter bolts because the flange on the manifold is thicker than the flange on your header and u will bottom out the bolts before its tight...trust me....

People reuse the stock header gaskets all the time with no issues...go for it.

if you are taking stock manifolds off a factory motor(in other words the manifolds have never been taken off) you should be ok to reuse them.

Plus once you have longtubes on its not hard to get them off to replace the gaskets.

Its actually recommended to use them over the flimsey paper gaskets some companys send with their headers.

Agreed. I used the paper ones and was not impressed. I'll be switching to the copper ones when I do my heads.

on my hookers i had to use the stock bolts on all of them cause the one's they sent were too big for the holes in the flange... and plus the directions said to re-use the stock ones, none of mine bottomed out, and i used the gaskets they sent with mine and i've had them on since october and no leaks and no probs... im happier than hell with these hookers, they are really good!!! lol

And then you would have wished you would have spent the few dollars for new ones in the first place.

Been using a set of stock OEM gaskets now for 202,000 miles and they have been on and off 4 different times with different head and cam swaps..if they are not damaged go ahead and use them...they really are pretty hard to wear out....you can spend money and then you can spend money wisely...just throwing money at a project does not guarantee anything....except a thinner wallet...
