Default Cold Air Intake??

I have an 02 SS with the SLP intake/exhaust option from the factory. I was just going to paint my SLP lid red, but I'm thinking about installing a CAI instead.

Will a CAI offer any benefits over my SLP lid? If so, what CAI should I consider?

Thanks for the help and suggestions!

Go with a Fast Toys Ram Air set up. You won't have to get rid of your lid.

I don't mind dumping the lid if it'll help performance. Some of the CAI's look pretty cool too.

Ive had just about every brand lid out there on my car, also K&N fipk and the volant at one time or another. I also had slp and Fast toys ram air setups on a few of them. IMO its a toss up...they are all within a few HP of each other give or take. So pick what you like, in both looks and performance. Anythings better than stock...

There will be no noticable loss or gain with any of the popular new systems out there.

So there won't be any real gains over my SLP lid?

if you already have the slp lid it may not be worth the money to change it

+1

Most of the Intake kids out there are several hundred dollars. I think the FIPK from K&N is like 350 or something which is crazy in my book. Keep the lid and if you really want to get some kind of intake look at the Ram Air setups as someone else mentioned.

I wouldn't waste my time on any of the Ram Air setups. I know some have had some success with them, but when I had the SSRA, my car gained absolutely zero at the track.

I have seen the complete opposite in every car I have worked with...

I have gained 2.7 mph with a ram air over stock...

and other stock internal cars have gained 1.5mph with a ram air I made similiar to a ftra...

good thread read it though has both setups in there
