Default Pro Flow Xt fitment

I am not sure if I am in the right thread, mod please move if incorrect. I have a 1969 Vette with a 23 degree 383 single plane manifold and racing carb. I have a raised hood and it fits just barely. The manifold measeures at 7.13 inches tall and the carb another 7.24 tall.

I am swapping in a ls1 which also will be a 383 stroker. I am liking the Edlebrock Pro Flow Xt manifold. I have seen pictures on other threads of this tall setup, but I am not sure. I think it should fit my app. Opionions?

my opinion is you should try it and see if it fits. If it doesnt cut a hole in the hood and call it a day. Or, even better cut a hole in the hood and put a monster twin screw.

I thought a twin screw was shorter.

LS1 with Super Victor manifold and an Accufab 4500 4 BBL throttle body. Shorter than the Pro FLo and will make more power.

Where is the power band. I am coming from a single plane, albeit a carb 23 degree and the power band is to high for any kind of street driving. I am not really looking for peak hp numbers.

Then you dont want Pro Flow XT. Have you looked at it?? Its a sheet metal/tunnel ram with a plenum on top of it!! By the nature of the design itll give up 20ftlbs through the low and mid range, then start gaining HP at 5500-6000+ Range.

A guy in the truck forum put one on his 6.0L and lost a full second in the 1/8th mile!! Then took it back off, it just shows that itll loose torque. He did mention that it really would get up and go on the highway(High RPM range)

Edit: I found it...

Richard says they act a lot like the victor (3500-7000 rpm) but shorter runners, so it would have to be for a lighter vehicle, looser converter and lower gear or something that can afford to give up so much bottom.
I'm running a 4L80E, 3000 stall with 3.73's and don't want to change and give up driveability. The fact is there is nothing out there currently for most of our trucks. FAST is supposily working on a truck only intake but sure it will be big $ when and if.
So I'm going back to the LS6 intake, it falls off some at the top but I was in the high 7's at the 1/8th with it so not too bad.
My only regret.........I sold my LS6 intake.................................

leaking injector o-rings? other vacuum leak? easy to blame by hearsay

it's not like bolting a super victor to a 283 ... the truck intake uses longer runners as well

but whatever

The FAST LSXR just got reported it picked up 30+rwhp and 20+ lbfts and didnt lose torque anywhere.

30 PLUS RWHP/20PLUS RWTQ GAINS WITH THE LSXR manifold!!!

Installing Nick Williams 96mm Throttlebody for testing now.. Will have results shortly. Next up is porting the 102mm for additional gains!!!

Looking for a 92mm to test against as well. Unfortunately I do not have any in stock at this time. I do know 33rwhp is quite an impressive gain out of a FAST intake!!!

From edelbrock site:The Pro-Flo XT LS1 EFI intake manifold is engineered with a large plenum and tapered runners to deliver maximum horsepower and broad torque band throughout the rpm range (1500-7000 rpm). Features include a 90mm throttle bore opening and 2.75" port exit height. This manifold produced 30 more horsepower over a stock LS6 manifold at 6500 rpm. Accepts Pro-Flo XT throttle body"

What I am trying to understand is this information incorrect from edelbrock? In fact it is a high rpm producing intake? Sorry for the confusion. I see the fast intake, but like to know my other options as well.

With the right cam a single plane will not be a turd down low. Give it some compression and with your 383 cubes you will be set. Just don't put a 90° elbow on it and a regular LS style throttle body. These intakes really like the 4BBL throttle bodies. I have an unported Victor Jr. on my 421" engine and it does not suck down low. It does come alive more when the revs get up to where the cam and intake are in harmony. But yes, it raises the nose every time you floor it from 1500 rpms up.
