Default Good match for GMMG cat-back?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for opinions/input on headers that would be a good match for a GMMG cat-back. I will be getting a LS1 camaro and I will be going with the GMMG but I want to make sure that the headers I get don't detract or hinder the exhaust in either sound or performance. I am looking at the usual suspects: ARH, Kooks but I'm also considering Dynatech. Does anyone have experience with the Dynatech Supermaxx headers? Which of the ones listed would sound the best in your opinion? Thanks in advance.

I have checked out LS1 sounds as well as YouTube and listened to the Kooks and ARH already so please don't jump on me. Ha ha.

All LT's with a GMMG will all change the exhaust sound. Any exhaust with LT's will change the sound compared to stock manifolds. LOL

Headers will change the sound of the GMMG, but I'm not sure the brand of header will matter much as far as sound is concerned. The merge in the Y-pipe will make a difference and cats in the y-pipe will make a big difference . With that said, I'm thrilled with my GMMG, Macs, and hi flow cats.

Thanks guys. Yeah I'm aware that headers will change the sound somewhat and that's exactly my point. I've heard some combos that I don't like with the GMMG and some that sound like crap. So I'm trying to find a combo that will improve performance & sound even better than just the cat-back, (if that's possible. I LOVE the sound of the GMMG.)

Also, I will be using a catted Y, with hi-flo cats of course. From what I've heard I'm liking the ARH / GMMG combo, Kook sounds good as well. I've only heard a short clip of the Dynatech, and that sounded good too. I'm actually leaning toward the ARH. I've heard the merge is one of the major selling points, that and the fitment.

There's not going to be much of a difference between the headers themselves. The problem is going to be insane rasp, and killing it requires cats in the Y, good tips (dual wall or resonator) and for most, a powerstick or bullet muffler in the I. A lot of guys will emphasize a good merge, and while that's great for flow, I can say from experience it does little to tame the rasp.

GMMG on stock manifolds sounds great. It takes some work to recover that sound quality after an LT install.

I disagree. I had a pacesetter Y on here before I put on the new improved TSP ORY and I can tell you that with the Pacesetter ORY it was EXTREMELY raspy. When I put on the new Y about a year ago it cut down on rasp A LOT.

Sounds pretty good Torch. The sound that I'm after is like DeputyDoug's. He has that bad *** Hugger Orange Tom Henry SS on YouTube. I LOVE that car and I'm going to be doing a clone of it when I get my LS1 camaro. I have a '95 right now, it's a V6 so I'm really wanting a V8.

So far it's between Kooks, ARH and Dynatech, and which ever one I go with I will be running a catted Y.

Yeah I did and it's a nice set-up, you can really hear the difference when you open the cut-out.

And I'm not sure how to post the clip but anyone who wants to see it, just go to YouTube and search for Tom Henry Camaro SS and it will come up. He has two vids actually. One is just a start-up and idle and the other is a burn-out and in car drive. You can really appreciate the sound of the exhaust with that clip.

Hopefully this works. Ha ha.

This is exactly how I'm going to have my car look. Hopefully I can get the sound as well. I'm looking for the same power goal too, around 400-450rwhp when it's all said and done. With cat-back, headers, ported LS6 intake manifold, mild cam and I'm considering P&P LS6 heads.

Now I'm not sure what make of headers are on the car. I know that GMMG has used Kooks and Dynatech on their cars. So I guess I can just flip a coin but I'm still considering ARH.

Add another Suppermaxx Headers with GMMG and Hi-flow cats.

Ultimately as long as you have cats (hi-flow) and like the Y-pipe merge and clearance you will be happy.

^^^I used to have a set of FLP long tubes on my '02 WS6 A4. They are basically the same
header and y-pipe and i loved my headers. But now they are made of T-304 instead of coated mild steel like my old FLP's. When i'm ready i wouldn't hesitate to buy the Dynatechs. Some think the smaller 2.5" y-pipe is too small over the 3" pipes that ARH and the others use. If you need every bit of HP then the 3" y-pipe headers would be the choice. But with my very mildly ported 241 heads, Comp. 216/220 .525/.532 114lsa cam Borla CB, a Vig.3600 and a TNT 125HP kit i ran a 10.92 @ 127.71 on a 1.71 60' time and ran a best of 11.77 @ 116.07 mph NA with the FLP/Dynatechs. I doubt if they hurt my performance at all. There's people still running 10's and faster using MAC's..lol. So it just comes down to personal preference i guess.

ARH, catted Y, GMMG and cam....make sure to get the catted y if you go with the ARH with the GMMG.
