Default shorty header question???

I am looking at purchasing some 98-00 shorty headers and offroad y-pipe for a 02 Z28.

My question is, I want to be able to switch back to my stock y-pipe with cats for emission. Will my stock 2002 cats and y-pipe bolt up to 98-00 shorty headers? Also how hard would it be to get the EGR to connect to the 98-00 style. Thanks for any help

Joe

The shorties are made to hook up to a stock exhaust easily. They will work fine with EGR if they have the Air tube and EGR ports on the headers. Way back a long time ago.. I had edelbrock shorties. They work fine i had no problems with emisions. Hope that helps

98-99 and 00-02 have different y-pipe setups.

You need a matching set. I don't recommend wasting your time with shorties. Is there some reason you can't go with long tubes?

save the money you plan for shorties and put it toward some other mods. the hp/$ ratio for shorties makes them pretty much worthless. also considering you have an 02 which have better flowing stock manifolds then the 98-00.

I also agree with that. I have had shorties , MAC mids, and now Long Tubes.. I kinda graduated to the Long Tubes. I dont have emmisions where i am, but i do know the restrictions in some places and with your concern for EGR etc, i am assuming thats why you are wanting to go with shorties..

the 98-99 manifolds/headers also have the air tubes in a different position then the 00-02's.

I'm sure he wants shorties due to emmissions. (He is concerned with putting back the stock y-pipe).

That said, he should spend money elsewhere; pulleys, etc...

If you think shorties have no tangable gains you do not know what you are talking about.

More specifically, a modded car will gain a lot more than a stock car, I agree. On a stock car, a ls6 intake, TB, shorties, or even tuning do not yeild much result. However take these same mods, and add heads/cam/tuning/True Duals, and you're looking at some serious gains. As much as long tubes? Absolutely not. More than stock manifolds? By a lot. There are many H/C cars that pass smog with Shorties (not even true duals) and a med cam, that are putting down 375-390 rwhp. I don't believe you can come close to that with stock manifolds, FWIW in a SMOG legal ride.

You might pick up almost as much gain, on an
'02, by simply porting the stock manifolds. The
casting intrudes quite a bit into the port with a
sharp lip and there is flow/pressure to be had,
there.
