Default Solid Mounts

So, after a bunch of reading, and debating i purchased the Sphon solid mounts, and the poly trans mount that they offer on the website. i did the whole thing over two weekends, the trans mount and brakes one weekend and the solid mounts this past friday. well obviousley the trans mount was easy, however the feel was night and day when i got in it was a little more solid at startup, and when i punched it into WOT it was a nice change from the old sloppy rubber trans mount, oh and did i mention it was delaminated lol, basically, the rubber seperated from the metal. so of course, big difference. I loved it.

this past friday i decided to do the solid motor mounts, well let me start of by saying, wow PITA!!!! 6.5 hours, but still, my knuckles show the pain it caused me lol. anyway, we started off by disconnecting all my a/c stuff, **** canned, gone lol, who needs that anyway right??? t-tops, windows down, and a cold glass of water that's all the a/c i need. sooo with the a/c outta the way, that helped tons, i don't really have any good advice other then, get creative, the passengers side was very easy to do, the drivers side not so much, ultimately what i did was lower the K-member, positioned the motor mount in as much as i could get it, and gave it a couple good solid hits with a rubber mallet and she popped right in. that extra 1/2" that lowering the k-member gave me, made worlds of difference on this install. anyway, here it is, for those that do not like vibrations, these are not for you, i'm not a huge fan, however it is nice, it's a solid startup, and it really goes. i know seein as how i'm stock it doesn't go like she could, but as the mods get bigger, and more, that the increases will be more noticeable.

on the vibrating thing, it only vibrates between like 600rpm, and 8-900 rpm, that isn't anything a simple tune can't fix, just adjust the idle a little higher, even then, if i put her in neutral, no vibes at all since she sits around 1000 rpm. so i say, for me, it was 100% worth it. plus, freed up a ton of room, the weight loss, better look (got em in red) all around just +++++ thank you guys at Spohn for the great product, and for the writeups of all you guys on here that i based my decision on.

if anybody has any specific questions feel free to post on here, or shoot me a pm,

Thanks for the info. I've been trying to decide to go solid or not. Solid mounts is how I've always rolled, but everyone keeps tellin me it's going to shake my teeth loose. Over it, ordering solids today. Hoping it gives me smoother shifts w/ my 6 speed. Going to do LT's, poly trans. mount, and solid motor mounts at the same time. Should make a nice difference.

How much of a difference are the Sphon solid mounts over polyurethane? I imagine there is a progressive change in vibrations from stock rubber--poly--solid.

My pops and I used to make our own solid mounts for our race cars back in the day. It made the cars feel bad *** + it was in the rule book to have them.

do your gf's wives have toys?? (you know what i mean) take one, set it on a table, set your cheek on the table and that's about it haha. i mean, i can tell, and it makes a sort of "humming" sound but again, that's only in gear, at a stoplight, but yeah, the shifts are firmer, the acceleration is there, i am 100% satisfied, like someone said, they are "muscle cars" not luxury cars, they shouldn't feel "posh" anyway, glad i could be of help, and again, if you have any problems during the install hit me up i'm willing to help. oh, yeah, this seems common sense to me, but you never know, this will help you ALOT!!!! do not tighten all the bolts until they are all threaded go about one 1/4 of the way in on each one, lower the motor and make sure they don't buckle on you, all this talk about them not aligning i'm sure is because they tightened the bolts beforehand, do not make that mistake.

98LS1: That is the most disturbing metaphor ever...I can picture you actually doing that for comparison sake.

But anyway, I've been trying to keep a healthy balance between street car and strip car, and since I have an automatic I was shying away from the solid mounts, but I think I might have to do it. It's quite a big weight savings right? Like 12 lbs or something?

Thanks for the input, it has helped me make my decision.

I have the solid motor mount, and yes there a pain to put on, but its worth it in the long run. A lot of guys dont like them because they cause vibration. But the whole point is to tighten up the drive line and we must give a little convert for the performance. After you have them a while you wont notice it.

aww, you didn't like it?? haha, i'm sorry, i'm a bit of a free spirit lol.

too help ya out i also have an automatic, and well i'm kinda on the same boat as you, that "perfect" balance lol, but what is it really?? lol, driver to driver it's completely different. either way, i think dollar for dollar, pound for pound, HP for HP, got to be one of those up there kinda mods, problem is, with most mods there isn't any sacrafice, this one there is. i think that's why so many people aren't willing to do it.

oh the coolest part is turning on the car, RANDY_WS6 i know you know what i'm talking about, and you guys that are about to do it, just wait, it's such an awesome feeling, it feels so solid when you fire it up. anyway, i'll get offa my soapbox.
