Default Aftermarket exhaust specialist come on in. Need help asap.

Whats up guys. Ok, about 3 months ago i installed a set of pacestter 1 3/4 on my trans am. I opted for the catted y, got the o2 extensions and all that jazz too. The problem is, when they came in the mail they werent fabricated with bungs for the o2 sensors in the cat. SO of course it threw a code. Figured id just take it to an exhaust shop and have them put them in some way. Today I brought it to the local jackass that does exhaust work to see what he'd say about welding them in there. He said "ohhh no man, ohh no. its not gonna work like that. the o2 needs to be a certain length sticking within the cat or else the code won't go away... blah blah blah." He might be right but idk. Any of you guys had this problem? Any suggestions or than just delete the code from the ecu? I live in North Carolina so its a MUST to have it in, otherwise i wouldnt care so much. Lemme know what other alternatives are out there other than putting the stockers back (took 4 hours for me to put the pacesetters back ). Any advice is VERY appreciated.

I'm not 100% sure so take this as opinion only - but I really don't think they have to be right in the cat. They are just o2 sensors - the front ones get relocated on every header install and work fine like that.

An option you do have is to get the "dummy" o2 sims. I know you're in Cali w/ strict emmisions - but you have the cats in place. The sims prevent the PCM from throwing a code and would probably cost the same amount of money as you would spend on having the o2 bungs installed in your y-pipe

The rear o2s don't go in the cat. They go after to monitor if the cat is working. Not sure if they need to be a certain distance after the cat, for heat and all, but definitely after the cat. Front o2s go in the collectors of the LTs. Hope this helps.
