Default long tube with no tune

Anyone here running long tubes or mid lengths without a dyno tune? Im thinking about getting a set of mid lengths or long tubes buti dont feel like spending 500 bucks on a tune around here.

im not worried about performance much, it just want a better exhaust note and having more power is just an added bonus. will my a/f ratio beok without a tune...any other info you can give me please lemme know
thanks

Your part throttle AFR won't change, but at WOT it will be a little richer. Shouldn't be anything to worry about unless you want peak power for racing.

I had gotten mine tuned after I installed a set of Kooks LT headers and catted Y-pipe. The only reason I chose to do it at this time is because I got the headers without AIR fittings & got rid of all the emission crap from under the hood (ie. egr/air pump) and I was throwing codes (no sims either). I'm sure I could have used my MAFT to tune it within a reasonable degree, but a local shop has been doing a 299 dyno tune special so I couldn't pass up the chance for a tune and a dyno sheet. besides I got rid of that pesky skip-shift and gained 15 hp just from the tune. and the updates are only like 75 bucks, so it was worth it to me. good luck

ok, i gotta nitrous kit, technically wouldn't running rich be a good thing at wot? not pig rich but a little rich? im looking at just getting pace setters myself, the wider the tubes and primaries the more issues id run into right? pace setters are relatively smaller than say Kooks or FLP's right? MAFT? the translator how much do one of these cost? if its about the same as a tune i might as well get a tune. my biggest issue with headers is i dont want to get back firing problems. i had them with my mustang without a tune, and that was a 95 gt...there is alot less computer involvment with those than these ls1's. thanks for the info fellas. im still learning

if your putting in cats its always good insurance to get tuned because heat is what kills cats...too lean and youll create too much heat too rich and same effect...cats can be funny like that

I haven't had a dyno tune on either of my LS1 cars that I have had with headers on them. I really would like to get the z on the dyno, though. I just haven't got around to it yet.

thats what im shooting for, this is my daily driver. i was planning on doing lts and a tune till i got word on how much it was gonna run me, then i really started leaning towards saying f it to getting headers, but i keep listening to sound files online and i just get all giddy like a school girl. i dont even care mucha bout performance as long as my car sounds that sweet. but i dont want to hurt anything either.

loud wise, i know lts are gonna make a considerable difference, but with cats do you think it would draw alot of attention from cops? cause im debating if its gonna draw attention i might as well go no cats and hope for the best cause either way, if they call me out and actually check for headers (which they dont usually) im screwed either way, but i honestly don't care too much i just dont wanna go def.
thanks fellas

I'm the proud owner of a noise ticket from Macs and a Loudmouth, but I was racing and am very lucky to have THAT ticket.

hahaoh the popular "improper exhaust" ticket. the "we need money now so we will ticket you " ticket is what i like to call it. I have a hooker catback and its relatively quiet at idle and normal driving, just gotta watch that WOT punch, it can get quite loud. so basically the consensus is every car is different and its up in the air if ill need a tune or not?
Thanks again fellas

I have LT's with a catted y and no tune.

I later thew this code:

PO420

Catalyst efficiency below threshhold (bank one) .

Which means something might be wrong with one of my cats or o2 sensors.

I WANT THE LIGHT TO GO AWAY!

its one of your rear o2's saying your cats arent heating up enough to do their job.

Is the o2s just emission crap?...does it affect my afr or any other engine controls if i just get sims? can i just delete these things with ls1edit?

the front O2 sensors you need. the rear ones get sims for, then you wont throw any codes. I think you can also delete them with a tune or ls1 edit, im not familiar with ls1 edit though...without the front o2 the car will end up running pig rich (i might have this bass ackwards though)

I'm kinda thinking that if a better sounding exhaust is what your after, MAYBE a set of shorties would satisfy you. I dunno. No tuning, e-z install, legal, and probably a couple of ponies to boot. Any thoughts on that?
