Default Installed Fast 102... Big problems... FIXED!!

Ok guys i just installed the fast 102 with the nick williams throttle body 100 mm.

Im having a problem here. I keep getting a code saying that bank 1 is running lean. Car misfires like crap when i drive it. Ive checked all the vacuum lines, Ive checked the Maf Sensor, Ive checked the bolts to see if they backed out and they are fine.

Which side is bank 1 on. Im not losing fuel anywhere. Maybe the Fuel injectors weren't pressed down all the way?

And whats even wierder is the fact that the car was driving fine. And then out of no where it starts misfiring. CEL blinking, Exhaust smelling like pure crap. In the drive of 1 mile my exhaust tips look like they were dipped in tar.

Any Ideas?

2004 Pontiac GTO ls1

torquer v3 cam, supporting mods, Pacesetter headers.

Bank 1 is the drivers side if memory serves. Id be willing to bet all you probably need is to have your tune adjusted to compensate for the new intake. Sounds like your Air/fuel ratios are way off.

How far away is your closest tuner? If nothing else you could probably get a sponsor to send you a mail order tune that will be good enough to get you to your local tuner. Just a thought

depending on how bad it's running, you could "baby it" to your tuner. Just don't drive the crap out of it. Of course, given your tuner is local and nearby...

Don't white tailpipes mean lean and black tailpipes mean rich?

Yeah my tailpipes are black as hell. I think its the Cam tune thats screwing with the car. Or maybe my O2 sensor went out on the driver side.

Pull all the clips off the injectors and plug them in again, sometimes you won't get a good connection. Does the car idle high? Spray carb cleaner around the intake and see if the RPMS jump for a vacuum leak. Did you torque the FAST in sequence?

Did you go from a LS1 intake to the 102mm? Was the car tuned for the cam and mods before this intake? Also, I'n not sure if they made revisions on the 102mm but did you use the allen heads on the valley cover under the intake?

If the exhaust smells like that and the tips are black its probably raw fuel and running rich/lean back and forth.

no it will idle at my regular idling rpm. 975
yep i replaced the valley bolts with the allen ones. I did torque the fast in sequence. Yes the car was tuned for the cam and mods before this intake. and yes i went straight to the 102 from the ls1 intake.

that is probably y you are running lean, you increased intake volume from a 2.5" throttle body and intake to a 4"! so a tune is definitely in hand and that will probably fix the problem.

If there are no vaccum leaks and you did all that I'd say its in the tune. Going from a Stock LS1 Manifold for a 102mm is HUGE. Especially on a car thats already tuned for a cam.

OP I honestly believe we need MORE INFORMATION on you setup.
Also this thread belongs in the external section

I installed my 102 intake with 102mm TB, you will need a TUNE asap.
my fuel trims were super rich, even with all the injector tables correct, my VE table, MAF table was way the **** off.

1. what injectors are you using?
2. what MAF are you using?
3. what fuel rails are you using? (just would like to know)

since the intakes are pretty easy to change why dont you put the ls1 intake back on, drive it to your tuner, then swap the FAST back on for the tune? Only takes 20-30 minutes to swap intakes at most

You might have fouled a plug or 2 out if its misfiring.

Did you check to see if the top and bottom halves of the intake were seated fully? Some of the 102s seem to not be mated together properly out of the box from what I've read on the Gen3 and 4 external engine sub forums. Apparently that can cause injector seating problems (mostly with large body type injectors though). Misalignment of top and bottom shells were also known to cause vacuum leaks on the 90mm manifolds. Just some basic stuff to check before pissing money away. Good luck,

Larry

Well on the gto forums there have been members who have actually driven their cars after the swap and had no problems like this. And ive read about some that have lean a/f ratios in the upper rpms.
Thought i could put it on and then drive it to get it tuned.

Also the random misfire is from the original tuner not tuning the Random misfire code out for the torquer v3 cam

There are no vacuum leaks. I bought carb cleaner and sprayed everywhere. Idle didnt jump or anything. Even at the MAP it was sealed.

Im using the Billet Fuel rails with stock LS1 injectors and the stock MAF

Im currently buying the 100 MM MAF 42 or 46# injectors.

Cant get a tune with out those lol
