i just bought an engine supposedly stock out of a 00 ws6. doing a bit of research on a few parts I am seeing that the intake p/n is 12573572 and comes up as LS6. does that sound right?

edit: no egr stuff behind the tb, me thinks its teh real deal.. bonus!

if it comes back to an LS6 that would be correct...I think by 2000 that intake was already being used over the LS1 intake. I have a 1998 and have already done the conversion from LS1 to LS6

Intake was probably swapped. Because, don't the '01-'02 LS6 intakes still have provisions for the EGR? OP said his doesn't have the EGR.

An LS6 intake does not have an EGR provision. Where it would fit in on top is just solid. The LS6 had a milder cam and smaller injectors than the LS1. Dono why they think those 2 small changes would negate an EGR, but in any event, I am glad mine is gone.

The LS6 has much more cam the any LS1, but the 01-02 LS1 cams are smaller. 01+ have bigger injectors than 99-00 as well.

got a picture of the underside of the intake? IF the webbing supports between the runner inlets criss-cross like an X, it's a LS1. IF they are square-like, it's LS6.

Why do people concern themselves with the webbing? If the bottom is flat, you don't have to look any closer.

Not only that but he gave the part number. It's an LS6. Question answered.

There is only a 5-7HP difference between the intakes, and the 01/02 LS1's had a milder cam. If you find a nice 99-00 you should consider it. Most of the HP gain with the LS6 intake is above 5,000 RPM.

The casting numbers for the LS6 design are 12573572 and 12561184 which is stamped on the manifold. The LS1 is 12560688.

Another benefit of the 2001/2002 model years is they got rid of the EGR with the LS6 intake.

Im pretty sure this answers your question...i just found out today my 01 SS came with an LS6 intake

I asked about the webbing because you can say flat all day long and it's misunderstood. You say "X" or square and it's a little clearer.

I also ask because sometimes people sand off the numbers. I can't see the pics where i am right now due to 'server issues'.

Hi, sorry for bringing an old thread up but I was just wondering of I should change my ls1 to an ls6 manifold. The engine is in a 4wd and I just read the hp gain is only in the top end. Does it flow any better on the low end.. After throttle response and torque rather than hp.

Thanks

From what I've seen it will shift your power from the low/mid range to the mid/upper range. You aren't really gaining power as much as just moving it around. Up in this case.
