Default Super Victor vs Victor Jr.

alright guys, i need to get an intake for my carbed setup and i am having a real hard time figuring out what i am going to run. the car is mostly a strip setup, but i will still street drive it occasionally. i just want to know what some of you think of these two intakes. i'd really like to see some back to back comparisons. i know that i will need a single plane intake, but i don't know that i'll need to use a $450 intake if a $270 intake will do the job.

combo:
11.5:1 370
PRC stage 2.5 ls6 heads
msd6010
232/240 .595/.608 112+4 (i know it's not optimized for carb setup, will be replaced this winter for a better carb cam)

1 3/4" primary longtubes (header selection is limited, pretty much the only thing available for a thirdgen camaro)
44-4800 converter (not purchased yet)
4.11 gears, 28" tall drag radials.
3200lbs

the goals are 6.99 and 10.99 on motor. do you think the Vic Jr. can get me there or do i need the Super Vic?

Unless you plan on running well into the 7000 rpm range, stick with Victor Jr.

I think the Vic Jr will get you where you want to go, the Super Vic would probably be overkill for your combination. I also have looked for real real back to back tests with both manifolds and haven't found much. I know the engine I'm building would be better matched to the Super Vic but I don't think I'll have the hood clearance for it. So I'll go with the Vic Jr and see how it does with some port work.

The victor Jr got me 132mhp and into the 10s no problem with more on the plate. no need for super victor with your head and cam choice.

A super victor will always outperform.

Need no... but if it clears the hood, why would you not?

IF you got the room go with the super victor. Much better intake. not just cause of the size the way the port are cast and the way its flow the air to each cylinder.

plus when you spend the time to have it hand ported the the super will be a great intake when done. The jr victor will still be a ok intake when hand ported and needs alot of work and doenst have enough metal to make it great.

Well about 95% agreement.

The quality of the intake that comes out greatly depends on the porter. I have some TRICK vic jr intakes that would be flow better than a ton of supers. But ya your talking about spending some serious coin on stuff like that. Much more than the simple cost of the intake itself.

When I looked at a super Vic the ports were way wider than the ports on the heads they were supposed to go on creating a shoulder. It just did not look like airflow would like it much and the motor was not gonna see above 6800. I'm sure most would widen the entrance of the head runner.

Not an expert, so no one freak out on me.

From a simpleton perspective. i was told this sort of shoulder isnt very detrimental and can actually be beneficial if ported correctly.

I had a quick talk about this with a friend who ports. I may have misunderstood.

Hopefully some one more knowledgeable will chime in.

i read a magazine article about the performer rpm, vic jr, and the super vic and the super vic always had better flow numbers than both all through the rpm range. the performer even had better flow numbers than the vic jr until about 6k than the vic jr did better. but the numbers were close between the two.
