no way it's normal to drop down into the orange section that's like 8VDC territory.

You need an amp clamp to check the charging amps on the car. You will blow up your DMM or hopefully just blow the fuse if you try to put it inline. I can't comment on all meters, but my Snap On meters have a 10amp fuse.

Well I blew my Powermaster alternator TF up Sunday night. I removed it tonight and black plastic peices started falling out of the back.

It's 10-0.
