Personally, I'd prefer a cheap toss away filter. It's just easier and it'll filter better with no messy cleaning & oiling. $4.10 each at Rockauto.com.
where do you get your info from santi claus, maybe the easter bunny. i really think that the guys that have problems with k&n filters really dont know how to install them, that is the real problem. there too scared to admit they dont know what there doing, they probably cant even put air in there tires.

This seems like a bit of an excessive response.

I can't speak for all people, but most of the guys I know don't use K&N or any other oil impregnated in the area we live in because it is less restrictive which means it allows more than just air to flow. That is simple science and you can find a number of independent studies online that support this.

We don't use them because of the large amount of dust and dirt on our streets and back roads. In rural Iowa that is a reality and as such there is more piece of mind in having a bit more restriction in airflow if it means a better restriction of dust in my intake. I've found dust in my intake and my MAF before with a K&N when I first moved up here.

Now were I still living in the Florida, then yeah I'd be using my blackwing or a K&N for the airflow. There wasn't the same level of dust and dirt on those roads. I might even use it if my car weren't a bottom breather since it wouldn't be scooping from the road.

All I am saying is judge where you live and how your car operates and determine if it is right for you. I prefer paper and can live with the restriction in place of a little piece of mind that it will take far longer to flow the same amount of dust into my engine.

And when I said horror stories, please remember the rest of that sentence specified "improperly oiled filters". Not just the filter in general. And while I do agree it is a small statistic, we all have had our dumbshit moments here and there.

Just a question. Has anyone used the Fram Air Hog filter? I have one in my car. Been there since I bought the car. Seems to filter pretty well. I know its reusable. Not sure how good it is though.

I was speaking from experience and first hand knowledge. My brother was for many years in the wholesale end of the expendables automotive aftermarket business (filtration, friction, fluids, lubricants, etc). For a long time now, K&N filters are a bit of a joke to the folks on the inside. It’s like, let them buy a K&N air filter, they’ll be back for a ring job.

It’s not a secret. K&N filters let through more dirt.

Run a simple paper filter day to day. Going to the track? Pull it and run NO filter.

i base my opinion's on my personal experience using things, and stuff i have sold. when i say sold meaning all the hundreds of thousands of parts i have sold to shops and over the counter to walk in customers. i have used ac delco and fram filters with no problems i have also used k&n in several of my vehicles with no problems. i havent had to re-ring any engine because of them, or have excessive oil or sealing problems. i guess i am just lucky or maybe smarter than the average ls1 techer. to the op sorry for the bull but you asked about paper filter's and you got a bunch of k&n filter bashing instead.

AC Delco oil filters are actually supposed to be pretty good.
