Default broken header bolt in head. What would you do?

the header bolt right by cylinder number 1 (very front driver side bolt) broke. Do I have to take the head off or can I fix it with the heads still entact?

It depends where it broke at. You can typically drill them or use an "easy-out" and get them out. Just depends what tools you have available. Typically on that cylinder, you can get them out in the car. If it is real stubborn you might have to pull it off though.

Thanks john. Yeah it seems like I couldn't get tools in right there and my arsenal is very limited... I was thinking I might as well just pull them off and put some 243's on and do a cam. I try to find opportunity in every thing I break on my car haha

Don't buy a cheap easy out. I broke off a harbor freight one inside of what was left of the bolt. What a bitch. I had to dremmel around it with a tiny bit, drill it out and then use a helicoil. But hey, it worked!

i had this happen to me once and thanksfully there was just enough of the broken edge hanging out of the head that i could lock onto it with some vice grips and turn it out

My bad, I did it out. Power steering and ABS in the way? Maybe you can float stuff out of the way or get a right angle drill?

I did that before on the rear bolt on the drivers side head....a bitch to get to. Took it off in about 15 minutes and took it to the first machine shop that was open (it was christmas morning) and had a guy drill it out and retap it for me for 10 dollars. He even gave me the next size up bolt for the hole he made. Might be worth a call before you break an easy out in there and have to take it to a shop anyways!
