So please talk me out of buying a 85mm throttle body off ebay for $180 bucks shipped. Any recommendations or warnings?

Kind of pointless when they include a reducer to make it flow into your intake because it's opening is smaller than the TB. You still have a restriction there. I'd get your stocker ported. There's a guy on here, and has an account on ebay that does a ported throttle body exchange service.. Search it

I have an LS6 intake manifold, is it the same size inlet as the LS1 intake? I see your point though, might as well wait on the throttle body until I can match it to a larger intake manifold port. I have a black wing lid wig, but paper filter and stock bellow and maf w/screen.

Would the best way to pick up a little power be to update/modify from the throttle body forward?

I was thinking a modified Ram air, k&n, smooth bellow, and a de-screened maf.

Any suggestions on whats worked for you guys?

There are people on ebay selling a similar TB for $80, I believe it's only 80mm though. I started a thread a while back seeing if anyone had used one and I didn't get any responses.

You'll notice a bigger difference from just porting the throttle body than you will from all of the mods mentioned above (considering modified ram air means removing the plastic under the air filter). A lid will help if you don't already have one, the smooth bellow is mainly for looks, and I wouldn't de-screen a MAF. The extra few HP isn't worth giving up that extra protection and having to readjust the MAF tables in the tune. Others will think differently but that's just my opinion.

Anything bigger than a stock ported TB on an LS6 intake is a waste of money.

If you have the means to open up the mouth of the LS6 intake, there's some gains to be had with bigger TB's. If not, the stock one does just fine once ported.

Just port the stocker, the gains are not worth the money. Just wait until you go heads/cam to upgrade, that way if you get a FAST intake, you can get a big TB to go with it and not waste the money on one now.

Just do it your self and save some money,if you don't have a dremel just get some sand paper and go to town, read the write up on it first ,but its a real easy project to do,also read about grinding down the throttle stop, my tb barely opened at all, if ya lived around me I would just do it for ya,but if your dead set on spending the money ,mark shanner does the best tb work and he is a great guy,

You are not TB limited now, so more helps none.

Like everyone else said either port your LS6 to 85mm or have your stocker ported and polished

I have the same throttle body recommended by my tuner gains of around 5-8 rwkw is what i have seen on the dyno, i assume somewhat the same as a ported throttle body.
Ive had mine for around 20000kms with no problems.
Ive seen New Era Performance had a sale on porting your stocker for $75 cash maybe another option for you.
