Default PRC Stage 3 LS6 heads on a 408/416

I am planning a big build for this winter. I am trying to piece together what I want now though. I am looking into a TSP 408/416 setup but have some questions about the heads. I am basically looking to make between 500-550 rwhp on motor with this setup and then I want to hit it with a 300 shot of spray at the track. Initially I was looking at going with the L92 heads but some people have recommended not shooting more than a 200 shot on the L92 heads because of the thin rails and blowing head gaskets. I know TSP offers the PRC stage 3 LS6 heads on their 408/416 long block setup, are the LS6 heads going to perform well enough on that big of a motor to make the power I want to make? How do they compare to a set of TFS or AFR heads?

Making 500+ is not as easy as some on here will have you believe.... My 1 3/4" headers are likely holding me back since my intake consists of a ported FAST 90, PTM 100mm TB and a FTP 104mm lid....

Yes I agree a thicker deck is much safer to run a big shot... The TFS 220's are the best bang for the buck in a aftermarket head IMO and with shims can be run with stock rockers. My TFS were worked over by TEA and essentially put up cnc'ed #'s but not sure Brian is still doing this (flowed 306 @ .500 and 322.9 @.600)... My cam is a EPS 238/250 and essentially behaves like a low 230's cam on a 346..... so there is more left to find up top w/more cam.

Good luck with your build!!!

I'd definitely be inclined to run one of the aftermarket castings with that relatively large shot of nitrous. Of course we're partial to the PRC aftermarket castings, but we also offer the AFR's and TFS heads too. In addition to the thicker deck, the aftermarket casting also offers better performance, especially on the larger cubed engines, than the ported GM castings.

We've got a $200 off special running on the PRC aftermarket castings currently!

Matt,

Any word on if you are going to be able to get your hands on the new AFR 230 V2 heads that I have been seeing all the posts about and the power they are making. They seem like they would be a perfect fit for a big cubed motor plus with them being cathedral port there are a lot more intake choices out there than the rectangular port. Can you give me a price quote on a long block with either a TFS or AFR head setup on a 408 and a 416? Also do you think with that big of a shot if nitrous I should go Iron block and stick with a 408?
