I'm going to say it also depends on where you live. Being that we obviously get no snow in Florida, I went with the Pacesetter ceramic coated headers on one of my cars and Hooker ceramic coated on the other. No issues with either set.

seeing that guys have gone fast with budget headers like pacesetters i would say its not really worth the cost. I highly doubt you will win a race or go fast because your header had a slight rust compared to somebodies whos shiny.

I'll also throw it up there, just so the info's in the thread - as far as I know, all the budget headers are 1 3/4" primary. Not so much with a bolt-ons engine, but with H/C/I, the 1 7/8" headers will show a gain due to the increased primary size. TSP has their non-stainless 1 7/8", but that's the only non-SS set I know of that size.

Most guys have to dimple a primary because it rests on the motor mount. On the older version I have, I also had to grind the K-member quite a bit, and cut off and reweld the ds collector, as it was pointing upwards and the Y-pipe was jammed up against the body.

My buddy sanded the rust off the bottom of his Pacesetters and painted them with hi-temp paint. Doing that once a year should keep it under control.

My ARH's are awesome. 1 7/8. Are they worth the extra cash? Well, I got a really good deal on this site from classifieds. So yes, they are worth it. Only issue I had which surprised the heck outta me was mine was tight on passenger side. I actually had to sand/grind a bit off the trans housing near the starter. Then she just had to be shoved in. My deal ended up only being a few hundred more than if I went non-SS, but I lucked out. Most won't find that kind of deal everyday. And they were still NEW too.

I had to grind the k member, grind the starter bolt tab and the header rests on the motor mount pedestal. I wouldnt call it the best fit but it works. Also the slip fit joints leak. You get what you pay for.

I've installed Pacesetters, Hookers, and Ebay OBX's, and none had fitment issues. I will never pay over $300 for a set of headers.

I try and tell people all the time, the only coating that is worth a darn is the jet hot black...ceramic is junk and rusts over time and the black will last longer. I will NEVER buy anything that is ceramic coated unless I just happened to get a good deal.

Jet Hot Black or SS in my opinion is the only way to go....but in the end I do not buy for looks, just performance.

So let's say you have stainless headers and you just want heat protection, would heat wrap be better than a ceramic coating? Because it sounds like ceramic doesn't take long to wear off.

Yeah, I still don't understand why it was so tight, cause I know I've never heard of anyone having this issue. Who knows. I do know that my car has had some body work, but "thought" it was only in the rear. I could be mistaken and this could be the reason for such a tight fit. Oh well, it is what it is. I still love the car.
