Default Can you safely weld headers?

I was driving home today, when out of no where I heard this horrible loud noise that came from under the hood. I pulled over and checked, it was my kooks headers. A dime sized hole was blown right through the driver side, forward-most "cylinder pipe"
Is it safe to have someone weld that hole up, or am I looking at buying a new set of headers?

The metal is probably so thin around the edge of the hole that it'll just burn off and enlarge the hole should you decide to weld on it. I am assuming that it's rusted through? If it's burnt through there, then that's probably not the only spot you'll have trouble with as time goes by.

Did they have AIR tube flanges on them? Sounds like one of them blew off.

they dont appear to be rusted through at all. I'll go get a pic and post it up in a bit. I dont think there were AIR fittings on these ones. It looks like a clear break from what I can tell.

My kooks did the same on both of my egr fitting things. I was just cruising down the road at about forty five and they just fell off.
Took it to my exhaust guy and he.welded.both of them for me, no problems so far.

I don't know if.kooks will do.anything I never asked but it sure is.a.bummer for such a nice set of headers to have a big welded spot on them. Quality issue?

ok, I stand corrected. 2XLS1, you hit it right on the head. That's exactly what happened. Is that something I can get welded back on? Or should someone be able to weld in a cover for it? I had it deleted anyways, I dont use it.

I've had nothing but good things to say about Kooks since I've had them on the car. I've got them matched with ORY and Borla catback, people LOVE the sound of it and tell me all the time, even strangers. It sucks this happened I don't have the time to fix all this.

It takes.about five mins for an exhaust shop to weld it up.. really isn't a big deal. my kooks did the exact thing on both sides.

I was gonna say thats one strangely symmetrical rust whole hahaha. And yea looks like a 5 min job for anyone that can weld.

really? it looks that simple to do? Do you think it's something they can do with them in the car? It's the forward most tube, I would think just pull the spark plug cables off, and remove the coil packs and there should be plenty of room to get all the way around it. Then again, I've never welded before. *On the list of trades to learn*

I'd say most likely some one like midas or any cheep muffler shop could do it with them in the car.

They can do them in he car.. pull one plug.wire off.

It should literally take five minutes to do. From the time i popped.my hood and closed it on both that's how long it took my guy.

Its odd that this happens on such a high dollar set of headers.

I was upset to say the least that i have two welded spots in plain view on some of the most expensive headers you can buy for our cars. You get stainless to last and look good.

Not to mention I'm sure it doesn't help the flow having that on there.. I was not happy to say the least.

anybody honk this could be a major issue? I have only heard of this being a big problem with look headers. recall? option to buy another set 50% off? something...

how long did you have yours on op?
