*remove the plastic panel under the driverside dash
*unplug the harnesses
*unbolt the bolts on the firewall
*unbolt the single bolt on the steering linkage
*unbolt the bolts to the bracket right up under the dash

Can't you just remove the pinch bolt to disconnect the steering shaft from the steering gear box...?

[ i.e. in the engine bay only ]

Exactly, I wouldnt see the need to remove the whole thing, just piece in the middle with the two bolts. Thats what I had to remove on my '00 Bird to get my LTs in as well.

DO NOT remove the entire column assembly!!! There is a single bolt near the bottom of that shaft where it connects to the rack & pinion and once you remove it, with a little effort, you will disconnect the two and lay the shaft to the side a bit and that'll be all the room you need in regards to the column!

Ok I'm here right now. Have both bolts removed. Which side comes out first top or bottom? Do I need to let all the PS fluid out? Thanks!
