If you look at the inside of the power stick, there is a ton of little cup like baffles. When we say with the grain, that would mean the air is flowing over the backs of the cups like so...

Going against the grain will do more for rasp than going with the grain. You can also get a bunch of different lengths of power sticks which will affect how much rasp they take out. I went with a 30 incher and couldn't have been happier.

Thanks for all the sound clips. I just ordered a set of the 3" thunderbolt cats with the metallic core. I'll run that with the flowmaster merge, dual 3" inlets to a 3.5" outlet into a 3.5" to 3" flowmaster venturi reducer and that will go to the GMMG.

For the powerstick users:
Okay, let me make sure I'm understanding this.
You guys installed the powerstick backwards? Like exhaust flow reversed so exhaust goes in the opposite end into the little open cups and comes out the other end? And if so, you believe this improved the sound?

I've got a powerstick on mine, installed the way that was recommended on the muffler. It's off of a catted Y pipe and dumped before the axle.
You guys think I could improve the sound if I flipped it around?

I was already considering buying another powerstick or an XR1 and running it to the back through another muffler then having it dump out back to improve the sound.

I'm not sure if it would "improve" the sound but it would tone it down more if you went against the grain like I showed in the pictures at the top of the page.

Going against the grain will just tone it done. Prolly won't do much sound wise.

But yes I installed it backwards like you said. The exhaust gases flow in the little grooves instead of going over them

They are also not catted so the powerstick makes a bigger difference, not sure you would need to reverse it.

I got all of my components installed. I had the valence blended into the bumper put some stainless tips on it from 6LE. I had the cats placed right at the headers, and had the y custom fabbed with the flowmaster merge. I have a bout 4.5-4.75" clearance at the lowest point of the exhaust. I think it turned out really well, and it sounds great. Its quiet when cruising and sounds amazing when I lay into the throttle.

I'm getting ready to add cats to my GMMG setup, what are the brand of cats that you're using?
