Default Stock vs aftermarket CB

How restrictive are the stock CB systems compared to the aftermarket stuff?
I have a ORY on mine and its loud and raspy. Getting ready to put LTs on with a healthy 383 and figured it will be even worse. Has anyone put a bullet inline in addition to the stock CB and had good results?

stock WS6 and SLP units seem to be acceptable. you'd be better off with a magnaflow system if you don't have the better of the factory units.

I believe the muffler is the restriction, not really the I pipe. I have LT's and and 3" Y pipe with a 40 series muffler welded in the stock ws6 cat back. I am getting a lm1 cat-back soon so ill let you know if I actually see gains.

any catback will yield you better hp gains and performance. I have experience with Loudmouth, Magnaflow, and now true duals.

The only one that had real unbearable rasp was loudmouth. It was very loud, and raspy. I think that it is louder than my true duals. True duals is where its at. the sound is amazing. ground clearance isnt the best, but the sound and throttle response is sweet.

I honestly didnt care much for magnaflow. It was great when i was just a lid, and magnaflow with shitty 2.73. it woke my car up. But its okay. Its not loud. its as quiet as stock at idle, and it has a smooth crisp sound. I ran magnaflow with longtubes, and ory and it wasnt raspy. And it did not get loud after awhile like some people say. I have a 230 duration cam and you can barely notice my cam lope. At idle now with duals is..

Did your LM have LT headers? I didnt think it would be louder than true duals unless you didnt have cats.

Stock is pretty restrictive, if your looking for something quite that performs well, look into the SLP dual duals, there not easy to find however.

As far as purchasing something new id go with the Magnaflow, or Hooker aerochamber cb which I have on my own car.

yeah Mike.. i ran hooker longtubes, ory, and LM1 on my old 2000 Z28 and it was loud as ****..lol. it was really raspy. at Wide open throttle it owned all..

I think for cruising around the duals are alot better. Its loud, but its tolerable. It isnt raspy at all man. The unbearable rasp with the LM1 killed driving around and was unpleasant. But LM1 is definitely loud.

I m changing my set up this year though, but with a cam the lm1 is crazy loud raspy and has lots of drone, its just not the best sound ,I want something deeper with out going duals, duals are the best but my car sits pretty low, thinking borla or gmmg, also cats and a cme really helps the lm1 ,the cats help but not all that much and it seems the extra bends from the cme really helps smooth out all the crap coming out,

Sounds like I need to look into true duals if I want the best performance, quality sound and pleasant cruise characteristics. I don't like it to too loud under load or cruise but enough to know it's talking to me.

Your running 40 series? How did they run the pipes?
I have never been able to find a 40 series with dual outlets on either side, I didnt think they made one...
