Default LS1 Oil Pan with Different Oil Filter Adapter

I somehow put a hairline crack in my original LS1 oil pan while moving the motor around and didn't know until it was back in the 2002 Z28 it came from... d'oh! Well, since it would have to come off and I didn't want to risk a repaired oil pan, I bought a replacement from Summit. The p/n I got from this site (thanks LS1Tech!) was definitely the right one and we got the pan put in very easily today.

Here's the interesting part: GM p/n 12628771 (98-02 LS1 f-car oil pan) came with a different size oil filter fitting! It's bigger, no longer using the 3506 oil filter! I couldn't find any information on what the new filter is supposed to be, but I did discover the LS2 oil filter is the same as the LS1...

I got the fittings swapped over to allow my oil filter to remain a 3506, but that just really surprised me. Does anyone know what size oil filter is used if you use a new LS1 oil pan? The threads on the end that goes into the pan were the same size between the two adapters, but the oil filter side is larger than the 3506 filter (stock LS1) fitting... So what's the new oil filter size?

Nevermind, the new oil filter for new LS1 oil pans 12628771 is a PF48 oil filter. Kind of wish I had been told that...

yup GM switched oil filters fittings for replacement pans. It makes no sense what so ever! I wish someone knew why they did it.

You can pull the adapter off the old pan and screw it into the new one. Ask me how I know

That's exactly what I did, but GM cost me about an hour of my time trying Oreilly's and Autozone before I found a 1/2" hex to remove it... GM if you're out there, I want my time back!

It looks like the new piece had thread sealant on the oil pan side, so I even put some on the old fitting and put it in there. Now my new oil pan uses a 3506 filter LIKE IT SHOULD! Hint hint, GM.

Yeah I dont know how this little deal even came about. At least put a ******* note in with the pan that tells me the oil filter number had changed with the new pan. I put teflon tape on the side that screws into the pan.
