Whining from engine (belt tensioner)

I'm getting a whining sound (almost like a vortech) that increases with revs. I think it is the tensioner bearings. Anyone replaced these? The old L98s used a 100 bearing and you could just press a new set in. Do you have to replace the whole assembly or can you get the bearings? How much did it cost you?

My car makes the same whining noise like LedSled1 says. I would like to know what causes this also.

Well, if it is the tensioner bearings - the bearings are not replaceable seperately (this is GM remember?) You'll need to buy the entire pulley (comes with the bearings)

My votes for the power steering pump also, Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak works wonders after about a 100 miles of use.

Jess,

My car started squeeking when cold and now it is throwing the belt at a anything over 4500 rpm. I have ~75K miles on it now. I ordered a new tensioner from SDPC. I'm putting it on tomorrow. I hope its not the UD pulley and this takes car of it. The part number is 12560344 and it was $55 plus 10 for shipping.

I don't think it is the power steering pump. It's not that type of gear sound. It is whiney but not quite like the pump. Mark, let me know how it goes with the new tensioner. The car has 59K on it so It could be either.
