Default Just "stole' a crate Ls1 for $600/ prototype motor

I just got home from Detroit where I bought a new in the crate Ls1 engine. It is brand new but some of the parts like the pcv hoses say prototype on them, I have never heard of 774 heads but thats whats on it, the block number is 12550592 it has a bat wing oil pan. the heads have been embosed with "WC" in several places I haven't taken it apart yet but it looks brand new in every way shape and form I am just curious about the history, the guy I bought it from got it from his dads garage when he died and his dad worked at milford proving grounds.... Help me fill in the blanks

I was gonna say, leftover 97 or 98. I'd almost take a head off and check it before you spin it over at ALL.

Have the bat wing pans been the same 97-04? because mine doesn't look like any of the ones I can find pictures of online, same shape but cast different, like the "lines" casting marks are different

^ The batwing pans are the Vette ones. Vettes had the LS1 in 97. Things changed a lot from 97 to 98. Then they pretty much settled down in 99 and up (LS1)

Yeah this guy has no idea what he has but I also have no idea what he has, every LSX engine I have owned, L33, Ls1, Ls6, Ls2, L92 they have all said 5.3 5.7 5.7 6.0 6.2 on the back of the block the other engine he has says nothing, the intake manifold for it looks like an Ls1 though has a "egr" hole but its not cut out, the valve covers don't look like ls1 they remind me of a vvt truck valve cove but this is a car motor for sure, and that one is fully dressed with c6 corvette front accessories I really wanted it...

So what kinds of things changed and is there anything I should be concerned about having a first year motor?
