Default FTP 98 fits like crap. New idea.

Finally got far enough on my intake swap project (literally ) and I got around to seeing how my FTP 98mm lid fits. Well, it fits like ****. It's either sitting on TOP of the rad support, in the front. Or else it's sitting with the sides and front of the lid over the sides of the rad support and loose as hell. Not impressed. it's either the back won't seal and the front is not really tight, or the front is sitting too high and the back is seated better.

Anyone ever do an LT1 CAI on an LS1? Wondering how this would work with the 102tb and 4.5" ducting though. I've searched a lot for custom CAI and saw a lot of any different kind of lid delete option and different CAI ideas. But haven't seen the LT1 CAI yet.

Question 2: Does oval pipe flow the same as circular? Wondering if I did a section of ovaled 4" pipe going over the rad brace section.

I can't get this thing to fit decent. Just double check yours and make sure (some how) that the filter IS contacting the lid. If mine is forward where it fits decent, the clips will be loose and the back of the lid will come off easy. Kind of slides forward a bit too easy and the back will be loose.

IMO, The quality of this lid is just really not the greatest. I'm coming from an SLP lid which the fitment, quality and thickness was great. It's a really solid piece. This one...... just feels like I'm gonna break it if I get rough with it the way I did with my SLP lid. My SLP lid, I had to push down on it and slide back to get it to fit in. This almost seems like it's a hair bit too big (fore and aft.) I think I'll grab a video of it tomorrow.

I think I'm gonna ditch the lid idea. Gonna get a stainless/polished LT1 style Rad cover and run a Vette style elbow over the rad and down in front with a C6 K&N Filter with a sock on it. Just gotta find some ~4" stainless tubing tomorrow and see if I can get it roll-crushed. I got some connections at factories around here. Gonna run it through the center of the stainless rad cover. Getting tired of this lid business.

Yeah the quality of the lids available hasn't got any better over the years, only the quantity of them.

Maybe put a 90*elbow right off the TB and shoot it straight over the the factory battery location, of course you'd have to relocate the battery to the rear of the car.
Just a thought.

Call FTP and send it back for a new one if you must. An LT1 CAI is a good idea if you want to lose .2 and around 15hp. LT1 guys are converting to a lid because it works, dont give up yet

But have you talked to FTP about it before you posted?

I have this lid, and I bet I know exactly what you're talking about, at first I thought it was complete ****, I couldn't get the locks to latch down. I ended up pushing the front of the lid over the lip of the lower air box, and it latches and fits perfect. Except when it rubs on underside of my hood. Look at where it rubs on top, and look at how I have the bottom of the lid sitting inside the lip of the air box.

I bought the lid used on here, so I can't return it anywhere. I've ditched the LT1 CAI idea, but started an idea similar to a C6/C5 intake right up and over the RAD cover and support and down front. I'll just have to find some 4"-4.5" tubing to have "crushed" and bent a little.
