From my understanding...they give you some pretty good gains down low compared to the longtubes...wouldn't that benifit us true city drivers alittle more than LT's? I'm hardly ever over 55mph day to day..

who's running shortys? and from all the Long tube talk...why?

Longtubes give you the most gains. And I believe it's actually longtubes that give you more low end and shorties are top end...

Mids a definatly better than shorties but shorties really arent better than the manifolds really. Not that everyone hates on them i think no one really cares for them and finds them more or less a waste or far inferior to LTs. If ya want them get them and think they'll help get them bro, i felt that at one point in time.

Then what are the purpose of shorties? why so expensive if thier out performed? I really thought Lt's gave you more top end though...

It all depends on what you want but I think mid-lengths are a waste of money compared to a long-tube. I think the ratio of people who regret going with mid-lengths is higher than those who went with longtubes. You might as well keep the manifolds and put your money into something else.

Pretty much same as k&n filters (for our cars at least), for the companies to make money, doesn't always have to do something. Shorties do look better than the stock manifolds so i guess one could get them to help improve the look of the engine bay..

id get LTs or nothing.

my friend got shorties for his GTO and he also said they look nice when i said he wasted his money. i still think LTs look nicer and theres an obvious performance advantage.

the main purpose of shorties is emissions legal improvement. the gains aren't great, but some people can't (or just won't) do anything in the gray area.

the two above posters are correct, they're mostly for emmision states, where you have to have the cats in the stock locations.

LTs are alot better because you also upgrade to a 3" Y pipe where as with short headers you keep your stock 2.5 Y pipe.

Up high, down low, in between, it doesn't matter; shorties gain nothing, long tubes gain everywhere. And mids will give you some power gains but not as much as long tubes, so I don't really see the point in them.

I would not buy shorties because the money and the hassles are not worth it over the excellent flowing LS exhaust manifolds.

Mid lengths seem to be splitting the difference in gains for long tubes over the factory manifolds.

The nice thing about mid-lengths are that they have no ground clearance issues and can fit better on some cars.

makes sense...just wanted to know why shorties were used...I'm going LT's no doubt, but wanted to know exactly why you would spend money on shorties..thanks
