look for a used one. it's not like some use and surface rust is going to hinder it's performance.

the car with 99 manifolds and an ory on it was VERY tame with a flowmaster muffler. the same car with 01 manifolds on it is LOUD. honestly sounds like a header car. i have to pussyfoot it to avoid being obnoxiously loud. for reasons i won't explain i had to replace the manifolds, so i bought some off an 01. had the y (mac) modified at the exhaust shop. fyi the driver's side fits perfect, it's the passenger side that gets ya.

9 RWHP for 200 bucks? And probably a nice sound increase....I say worth it. If I had to do it again I would do an ORY and TSP rumbler for cheap power and nice sound. No matter how you cut it, those LTs and big Y are going to drag and hit things if you live anywhere with textured roads.

I'd just save my money up and do it right the first time.

I don't remember how many times I've had to mess with my exhaust on the 87...probably have an extra thousand dollars right now, lol.

Lot of talk about long tubes being better than shorties
and for midband torque it may be true. Presuming you
actually get good long tubes and especially the Y pipe,
and tune it right, and can hold a tune.

Me, I just got done taking off the Jet-Hots and putting
on a JBA / Mufflex / SLP Y lineup. Car is slightly louder,
feels stronger and I can get at #8 from the top. But
my main motivation is to get closed loop to not be
mis-trimming from the cold and extra pipe length.

My whole perception of this was 200$ for lets say 5-9 hp and little louder/good sound to go with it. and I think it would give me an idea of what my catback will sound like with lt's
Compared to 7-1000$ plus install and ideally a dyno tune for a total of around 18-25 hp

even if I were to do long tubes 2 or 3 years from now this is a pretty cheap fix and easy install. my thoughts that were the cats and the flat stock y might be holding back a few hp...

i don't know that the stock y is all that restrictive. the "flat" part is an oval. it's not like they took the pipe and just smashed it. it most likely has the same area to move air, just a different shape. i've seen plenty of stock cat/y cars trap what header/ory cars do. i have one of them.

Well dyno numbers dont mean anything but on stock manifolds I really dont think you would notice much at all. It might pick up a few ponies. I gained 25rwh with Long tubes, and a 3" TSP Y pipe. Ended up putting magnaflow cats on for emmissions and only lost 5 hp. Didnt lose anything at the track though from ory to catted. I wouldnt get too caught up in the dyno numbers.

it just seems like the air restrics more...round to oval/flat to round again... it doesn't seem like direct airflow, opposed to 3" round all the way through and ditching the cats...just a thought for 200$.

When I went from the stock Y to the SLP Y, I still
had cats on it and I saw not a thing from it at the
track. Nothing wrong with the SLP Y, it just isn't
the problem.

I figure if shorties plut SLP Y is actually louder than
the Jet-Hots, the lineup must be less restrictive.
I blame it on the retarded Jet-Hot merge. The SLP
merge is actually quite decent looking.

Anyone else chime in? Is this worth it more on an 01-02 because of the superior manifold design? Do the 02 cars also have 4 cats?? Seems like a great mod for an 01-02.

I just installed Pacesetter LT's, TSP ORY, Magnaflow bullet dumps at axle. my old setup is in sig and the numbers are of that with the ORY. It didn't yield 9rwhp, at most I say 5rwhp. It sounded pretty good and I always had compliments on it (due to the borla catback I had, though.)

After buying LT's and TSP ORY + spark plugs, O2 extensions from TSP for like $430 I regret laying down $200 for just an ORY. The sound now is loud but tame and STRONG, it's what it should have sounded like to begin with.

If you can get a used ORY, go for it, otherwise not really worth it IMO.
