Default Magnaflow quality Issues?

Going to pick up a Magnaflow catback quad tip #16723 this week. Found one used for sale. Claims to have never been installed. Got a good price on it, compared to new, but now I have seen people talking about these quality issues at magnaflow. Is their something specific I should be looking for?

I also have a pair of ebay headers in which I want to run with the catback. What are my best options for getting it all together. I cannot run an x-pipe to the catback? So i assume my only other option is a y pipe. I just want a clean install and good sounding exhaust.

I'm a newb... lol

I just spent the last two nights trying to get my Magnaflow to fit worth a damn. I finally got it tonight. You just have to tweek everything to get it right, but its a real pain in the ***. The fitment on that thing just sucks...

The Magnaflow catback is designed to work with a Y-pipe, not an X-pipe. That being said, there may not be a good off-the-shelf Y-pipe that works with eBay headers... you may have to have a custom Y fabbed up by a shop.

Also, from what I hear the quad tip catback has better fitment than the one with the truck tips (the one I have). My catback had horrible fitment issues, had to cut a hanger shorter and bend it to fit... garbage, absolute garbage.

I bought Ebay headers and a TSP catted Y and it bolted up pretty nicely

..and 2 of the hangers on my magnaflow catback have ripped out of the pipes around the welds, so you may want to just check them periodically so you don't end up dragging your exhaust down a hill

I think magnaflow orginially designed the catback with the quad tips, then later right before it was launched came up with the cannon design. The elbows that come off the muffle are completely different I guess for spacing between the quad tips and cannons are dif. I been thinking about trying to find a way to get ahold of the elbows from quad tips and putting slp lm slash tips on them. I hate my cannon tips on my camaro.

Mine fits like crap. The left tailpipe is slanted upward and the right is fine. Sounds good for a "quieter" exhaust but I'm thinking of any option to get rid of it. I'll probably end up getting a bullet and dumping it after I get my ARH 1 7/8s and ORY swapped in.

I love the cannons when they are perfect like mine used to be but like Asian lsx my driver tip slants up and my passenger tip rubber looks like it ripped through and hangs down now
