Because it makes it much easier to take the throttle body off if you need to work around that area. That was the only reason I did it. If you go to an aftermarket throttle body (like one for the FAST 102), you'll be doing this mod anyway since those throttle bodies don't have provisions to keep this feature.

^ what he said. Plus why not? Not only is it easier to work around without the coolant hoses running to it its been proven to gain a pony or 2.

There aren't many mods where your going to gain 1hp per dollar

People think it warms up the incoming air and costs power.
I think this is true in a very trivial sense, but insignificant
at WOT where it matters. If I lived up North I would not
do it, as I've had carbs ice up on me back when I drove
through Canada in fog.

I cut the whole boss & barbs off my ported TB and used
a piece of handy stainless tubing for a bypass. Nest cost,
two hose clamps and ten minutes. Net gain, nothing at
all.

So your saying people up north shouldn't use an aftermarket throttle body because a lot of them don't even have previsions to run coolant through them

I don't think its possible to freeze your throttle body unless you poured water on it and let it sit overnight.

There is enough residual heat coming off the engine to keep everything nice and toasty no matter how cold it gets......provided you can start the car
