Default EGR and AIR delete question

Hey guys, so i don't know if i should delete my EGR and AIR. I've read numerous threads on here about it and i can't decide. The egr just looks like crap. I want to take that off and the AIR. I also have pacesetter longtubes that have the EGR and AIR hook ups. Will that affect anything? And also what about tuning. My car already has a tune for full exhaust and a ported throttle body, so if i took the EGR and AIR off would the SES light come on and i'd have to get it re-tuned? I just need some advice on this. I've only had my ls1 for a couple months. Thanks in advance

You will have to get the AIR and EGR block off plates for the headers and intake. Also, you will probably get a CEL that needs tuned but, other than that you shouldn't have anything to worry about except for the light being on. If you have to pass emissions inspections I personally would just leave it alone.

Ok thanks. I do have to do emissions testing but they just plug it into their computer then check for cats. So I don't really have to worry about that if it's tuned out.

Yea ima do a EGR/AIR delete but when I do my headers and tune in the same time. Im sure Indiana and Illinois are the same for emission testing, just plug and thats it, they don't do visual inspections so we'll be good

Where I am in Indiana there is no inspections. If they do just a plug and check you might want to ask someone if it checks to see if the EGR has been disabled. That is how it will be turned off in the tuning. As for the air, the air is there to help ignite the CATS when you start the car. If you are going to continue to run stock CATS you might as well leave it. If you are going to run high flow CATS go ahead and get rid of it. Just my 2 cents

I think I'm planning to do a ORY. I was gonna stay catted but I decided to stay with my SLP Dual/Dual catback so if I do headers w/ a catted y, it's going to sound stock pretty much still.

Yeah, i have an slp catted y with high flow cats, so removing the AIR shouldnt be an issue. I just gotta find a tuner now so i can delete the codes once i do it

Its pretty easy to turn that stuff off. If you can you should go back to the original tuner because they have the credits that were used on your car in the first place. Unless you have a tuner that has the unlimited package for your model year car and he should do it pretty cheap. As for the block off plates, I forgot to mention you can just weld the holes closed or make plates....

The only thing im worried about is the tune. I bought my car already tuned for a ported throttle body, ported maf, pacesetter longtubes, slp catted y, and slp loudmouth. Will plugging it in to a programmer to delete the codes mess that tune up?

I would buy an LS6 intake w/ no egr then just have the code tuned out.

Go to someone that has unlimited credits with HPtuners, if they do a lot of tuning that is normally how it will be.

He will pull the tune, edit the EGR and AIR settings then flash it back in. Wont change anything in the tune unless he changes it. Are you sure it was tuned?

So i am not sure what to do. I really want to delete them both but im just worried about the tune. How much would it be for a perf. shop to delete them out of my current custom tune? i cant really afford my own tuner and i dont really wanna take it all off and have an ses light staring at me.

Best thing to do is call the local shops. If they have the unlimited package it shouldn't cost much because you don't have to buy credits.....just depends on the tuner

Only if the shop locked the PCM. Some shops do some don't. If its not locked you could come to my house and I could do, I would just have to buy the credits (example). If its lock there are a couple options.....either you go to the original tuner and have him do, you have him unlock it so you can get it cone somewhere else but he would more than likely flash a stock tune back in and you would have to get it retuned, lastly take the PCM to the dealer and they can unlock and reflash it with a stock tune which you would need to get it retuned.

Do you know who the original tuner is?
