Alternator....

Simple question since this thread is about alternators.
My car's battery voltage was way down in the red today, battery is brand new. Also, lately, along with the bad voltage readings after it's been sitting, it's been making a loud grinding/whirring noise that gets louder with RPM's, but only after it's been sitting for a while. Sounds like it's coming from the bottom of the engine bay (where the alternator is). I also cut the car off while it was still cold to see what would happen and both the belts and motor sounded like they were still trying to run for about 5-10 seconds, even while the key was out of the ignition and the exhaust was dead silent.
Sounds like a bad alternator? Yes or no? If so, send me a link to the one that's being mentioned in this thread.

have you taken the alt out to get tested? a test is not a cure all.....but if it is that bad a test should find it.....have you at least done a simple volt check at the batt to see if the alt is sending any volts to the batt? a new batt should not be drained
i am not familiar with what kinda noises a failing alt would make......unless if was just the bearings going bad.....my stock alt was fine when i replaced it
my built alt was 300$ which was alot compared to the 45$ truck alt junkyard special i had in there before replacing it......dont know how your funds are but think about trying a junkyard alt unless you have a killer stereo that may need the extra amps

Innovative wiring sells them premade, but they are expensive 109 with shipping and everything. I am considering making my own, does anyone have any pictures of the end of their cables so I can see how they go together please? Where can I get some 0/1 gauge wire without costing me an arm and a leg? http://www.buy.com/prod/metra-raptor...205844483.html found that, but I dont think its good to use for battery cables? I dont know any help would be appreciate thanks

Yeah I saw that ground, but I was refering to the Negative cable that comes off of the battery. Where does it bolt to the engine? Theres one part that goes to the fender right next to the battery, but the other longer negative cable goes down towards the starter area, but I cant see it. I was just wondering if you knew where it was.
