Default Repaired LS6 intakes ok?

There is an intake for sale that I am loking at. It is in good condition except that is has been repaired. The guy said that the map sensor hold-down was cracked and he repaired it with super glue? How reliable is that? I have no idea what part of the intake this is so I don't know how important this is. Thanks.

If it is just the map sensor hold down it's no big deal but again why is he selling it? The hold down is just a plastic tab that sticks up on the back of the intake to hold the map sensor in place but the sensor would stay plug into the intake without it, the LSX intake doesn't even have one.

Sounds like a potentially huge headache for a part that cost less than $400 new...

It can be fixed. The material the manifold is made of is Dupont nylon 66. These types of manifilds have been used in racing for a few. You will need to fix it with more than super glue. Super Glue was invented by Kodak in the 1960's and was used in the aerospace industry, but the stuff you get commercially at the retail level is nothing compared to what it was. I would use a high quality epoxy. I'd check the manifold for straightness, and make sure all the angles are in their right place. I'd take it to someone or a place that does racing work, or buy a book on repairing composites and materials like the manifold is made of, and go that way. Like z98 said, "it depends on the price."

I would pass on it. I used epoxy on one I had that was cracked in the same area. It held up exactly one week. It broke off while driving (car stuck at WOT) and a large piece was sucked into the #6 cylinder. I'm sure there are glues that will hold, but I would be concerned about long term use.
