Default Time on Open Headers

I'm probably going to get a lot of different answers on this one but I wanted to get everybody's advice. I hope to finish up my header install this weekend. What is a safe distance to run on opens. 20 miles, 200 miles? Also should I install the o2s while running open? Thanks.

i ran open headers for quite and while 100-200 miles. I just went to the auto store and bought some turn downs and put those on there. I think it would have been fine driving much further.

Just run some extensions after the collectors and install the O2 sensors, just dont let the fresh air get to the O2 sensors and you can run em like that, forever. I think about 12-18 inches would be plenty

Yeah. One of the things was I didn't want to screw up the front o2s. Really want drive it but nobody around here can finish it up until friday. I can't wait that long.

what do you mean safe? running open headers isnt dangerous in anyway. i ran mine to the exhaust shop with no O2s. just dont get on it and you will be fine. that is if you stand the noise

Without the O2s the car will detect it and run the car into a huge rich condition....car will run, sound, and smell like **** for sure.

Grab some exhaust pipe from the local auto supply store and 2 clamps. Only need like a foot so that fresh air doesn't get in there and confuse the o2's. That'll hold ya for a while.

Definitely hook up those o2's and definitely try to at least extend the pipes past the primaries a little bit. Like others have said, add some pipe so the o2's don't think your running really rich. Then again, you'll still run rich because you have no rear's reporting (but not as bad).

How long can you run it? As long as you can stand. Open headers can add a massage feature to your seat and the only harm is if your ears can't handle it or if the cops are really ****.

that is correct. it will go into open loop. but it wont run like ****, dont go hard on it anyway, it will sound **** due to open headers but thats it nothing wrong will happen by driving it to the exhaust shop without O2's
