Water Pump, 160 degree Thermostat?
Hi, I have a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am LS1 with a full dual exhaust and unknown cam along with SLP Intake. My stock water pump has just began leaking and is due to be changed. The T/A runs at 210 degrees water temperature. My question is would it be worth to drop down to a cooler thermostat to reduce water temperature? I do not drive the car in the winter so to have warm water temperature for heat is of no concern to me. Thanks for the input.

(TheSilverOne) Is it possible to program the fans to kick on at a lower temperature? Would that bring up the problem of burning up the electric fan motors?

Thanks (LS1121) I think i will just replace my water pump and since i will have it off, i will replace my thermostat with the current one in it, and keep running at 210 degrees.

Ya know what, my opinion only but......if you go thru all the trouble to replace a water pump because you are having an over heating problem and don't change the Thermostat at the same time......that is just Stupid!!! and you deserve what you get. Did you ever think that maybe just maybe a stuck thermostat creating excess pressure might have leadto the demise of the water pump. All I know is that MY car is back to running at about 185 you can do whatever you want.
