Default Can you coat headers yourself?

I want to buy hooker headers but i can only afford the non-coated ones. Is there a cheap way to coat them yourself? I don't care about the extra heat seeking into the cabinet, i just worry about the rusting. Thanks

Hi-temp paint in rattle cans. VHT is one brand. Eastwood ---------------------------------->
sells some hi temp coatings you brush on, buy it stays kind of tacky until it cures with heat. Makes installation a little messy if you apply it before the install. I've used it on old school cast iron manifolds with success.

I've heard of people using some type of grill coating too.

No first hand experience though.

I was considering the uncoated route (can't beat $279.00 for a set of LS1 long tubes! ) and just spraying them a few times with Rustoleum, grill coating, high temp header paint etc but I'm also concerned about rust on the insides of the headers as well.

It cost me $300 to have my Hooker LTs re-coated by JetHot. If I were doing it over again I would have baught the uncoated Hookers and had them coated by JetHot in the first place. Oh well...live and learn

POR 15 has header coating, and it doesn't get more rustproof than POR products

The early LS1 Hookers were coated (and sold) by Jet Hot actually.
And I have seen more than one set of Jet Hot coated headers rust, within a few months even.
