Default Header Gasket Question

do i need to use any kind of lube/tac on the gaskets that came with my FLP's...or do they just seal in dry form?
Thanks,

Mike

I installed mine dry, and have had no leakage issues. Of course, I've only had 'em on for 3 weeks... Frankly, I've never heard of anyone using a sealing material in addition to the gasket alone, but most of my experience up to this point has been with near-stock applications so I may be in the minority...

i haven't tried this on a ls1 motor yet but i had a 95 mustang gt (5.slow yes) but when i installed my long tube headers, i put some, if memory serves me right, rtv silicone kind of sealant, i basically used it to glue the gasket onto the header so it would fit the holes, then i put small amounts on the gasket goign to the head itself. Sealed up great, and they never blew on me. drove with them for about 27k miles before i traded in the car for a 98z28. i took off the headers to return the car to stock form, and the gaskets still looked good, not as good as say a set of metal ones would have looked, but they did their job.

id think u'd have similar results with a ls1. if my stock gaskets are shot, im going to be using the paper **** gaskets that came with my pacesetters and ill be using a sealant on them too. just to ensure easier placement of the gaskets mostly.

just use small amounts if you are going to.

can you reuse the stock gaskets?

the local dealer is expensive for me if i can reuse my stock ones, that would be tight cause then i dont have to wait for shipping from another web company.
