Default Alternator question.

Is there more then just that 1 wire that runs to the alternator? I found the 1 wire that hooks to the back of it. But then I found a small red broken wire hanging down right above it? Is there more then 1?

there is the power wire that comes from the battery. that goes to the back post. then there is the plug on the side which is a single wire, about 18AWG that goes to the ECM and relays the v's to the dash gauge. so you need a new plug.

Thanks now I remember seeing that in my old 1 that I gave to them.
There was a piece if wire still in there. I bet my powerstering is leaking from the reservoir right above it and is eating my wires and ruined my alternator. Iv been leaking fluid from there.

Ok so there's only 1 wire that goes to this plug right? Got 1 from the Chevy dealer but it has 4 wires coming from it. I want to be sure before I start cutting the extra wires.

do you have the bracket removed also? I removed my bracket and alternator and put it all back in at the same time. If that makes any sense lol

you have the single exciter wire which goes to the plug, and the fat gauge wire that screws on to the bolt on the back of the alternator. so, two wires total.

Sounds like once the wire broke, you drained your battery. Now that you've fixed the wire, did you get the battery checked/charged?
