Single chambers are real loud. I had one on my 3.5'' single exhaust and quickly changed to a Magnaflow Race Series muffler to quiet it down. Didn't care about the flow since I had a 3.5'' DMH e-cutout

I better hide under a rock, I own two 80 series.

...lol, in my defense the PO said the Z28 had an aerochamber catback before i bought it. i found out the hard way when i had to repipe everything because they reused the factory catback.

The 6 spd and the flowmaster does impress my little brother, who is in highschool. I guess things could be worse.

i run a 40 series with the pacesetter LT's, and 3 inch tubing all the way back. i will be installing my cutout this weekend and then hopefully going to the track. I'll run 3 times with it closed and 3 times with it open and run an average. who cares about dyno numbers it's all about how it performs at the track, otherwise flowmasters have one of the best sounds out there....IMO. don't listen to other people's opinions, it's your car and if you like how it sounds who cares. otherwise get a cutout and when u really need to shut ppl up run the exhaust open.

If you have a 80 on a LT car with no cats and a cam, its not that bad sounding, actually pretty loud. Anything other than that I dont think it sounds good at all, but thats my opinion. I've cut a flowmaster 80 off at least 10 ls1 f bodies i've had and still have em piled up in the attic. I did cut one off a bolt on SS I had, put a stock one back on it and gain 3hp, same day. 3hp aint ****

80 series sounds a lot like the single chamber I used to have.

For the average Joe the 80 series isn't a bad choice. I have one on my car and it sounds better than stock. If I was into racing and building horsepower I probably would steer away from the 80, but on a normal DD there's nothing wrong with it.

and if you want to diss on something being the chokemaster hate on those damn stock manifolds ewwwwwwwwwww!

edit: i do have a flowmaster 80 but i am getting a cutout when i make my custom y so problem solved anyway.

@@@@@@@@@ another thing i have never read that some people need to hear is this:

the stock exhaust (at least in my 02 SS) necked down from 2.75 inches to 2.5 inches right before the inlet on the flowmaster. i would bet money that a lot of the issues relating to the flowmaster have to do with people going with the 2.5 inch inlet flowmaster and keeping the bottleneck in place. i ordered the 3 inch inlet flowmaster and had the exhaust shop cut off the neck down section of my i pipe right before it enters the muffler adding a 3 inch piece in its place.

i dont know if the 1/4 inch of of bottlenecking from 2.75 to 2.5 inches hurts that much, but it can't help.
the hp loss with an 80 series has been shown on multiple dyno sheets

https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomet...hp-cutout.html

This one has at least some data:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomet...they-suck.html

And some more info about the different types of Flowmaster mufflers:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomet...ink-again.html

But as has already been stated, Flowmaster makes many different kinds of mufflers...the ones people are complaining about being Chokemasters are the cross-flow 80 series mufflers used as the replacement for the stock f-body muffler in their cat-back system.

And you've never heard the same complaint about Magnaflow or Hooker? The FM's I've heard on manifold/cat cars have sounded much fuller and richer than a Magnaflow or Hooker ... even though I really like the Hooker.

Let's all remember - the OP is replacing his stock muffler with an FM 80. Presumably he's on manifolds/cats. Is he going to experience some huge hp loss?? Geez ...

As for the dyno results, I watched my buddy with dual cutouts run open and then closed at the track with an FM 80 catback. NO DIFFERENCE.

I liked my 80 series it was a little loud, now I run a hushpower because I thought I might be giving up some power with the 80 series

A buddy of mine has a flowmaster 80? on his T/A and it actually sounds pretty good but i think it's been on there a while. I have a magnaflow on mine and, before I put the LT's on, I thought his sounded better.

My first car was a 98 v6 camaro. I had a flowmaster put on it and I too would have to agree with you. Of course it's nothing like a v-8 but probably the best sounding v6 I've heard and even better than some setups I've heard on the ls1 .
