Default The horrible rasp

Alright heres the list, 1 7/8 shorties ( i believe thats the size) 2.5 into x pipe then into mag race bullets. The thing sounds mean.....until you get to 2000 rpm and them it sounds like an old western shoot out with glasspacks. What do i do?

1. Stratch the x pipe with true dual
2. Same deal above but H pipe
3. Keep it but at resonators before or after x pipe

Ive read mixed results with all these, i just hate driving it right now cause im gonna give someone a heart attack cause i sound like a drive by shooting when i give the dang thing gas

H pipe will deepen the sound as far as i k now. also try using a true bullet mufflers like magnaflow or borla not resonators

Alright ill try that. Well that magnaflows that i have are the "race" bullet type, i cant find the exact number for them but there just like the 14416 mufflers, as far i know those are bullets, whats another good sounding round case muffler? Cause for room for the mufflers is pretty tight, if i had to throw regular style under there i could but id rather not if you know what i mean

I also never thought glass packs sounded good at all. Do you have the same size exhaust from the headers back because changes in size can cause rasp. You could try the slp loudmouth or if you have the money a set of borlas.

Look at the internal finish of the X. My belief is that sharp
edges in the exhaust stream are "dog whistles" and are
what make the objectionable rasp. Round off your sharp
edges at unions and the X. Check the fit of the shorties
to Y at the flange and make sure the Y is equal or bigger
or at least decently chamfered. I've seen some ***-tastic
eBay shorties that have a crazy step in the collector-flange
that has to be terrible for turbulence / rasp. Just look it
over from the inside view and "go with the flow" with Mr.
Die Grinder.

Yea its the same 2.5 all the way back both sides. But the crappy thing is i think i ordered Magnapacks istead of the race bullets that they have. Dang Summit racing for decieving me! So what would be my next option cause the guy who did my exhaust did the x pipe and all that in one shot so i would have to cut out the x pipe and change stuff, If i go there should i just through an H pipe in there and scrap the x pipe and go with Dynomax bullets?

Ok sick haha

Alright next question, will a bad tune make the exhaust have a rasp? Im talking with my tuner and he said the tune is fine and to specs, but that might be a whole neither can of worms, am i correct?

i dont think rasp has anything to do with tune, are you sure it is rasp? duals barley tend to rasp specially with mufflers like magnaflow..id vote for an H pipe.

Its an audible rasp, but weird enough i changed all the plugs to tr55 with .55 gap, the rasp has almost gone, three of the plugs the electrodes were almost gone and the others looked pretty burnt, so how the heck that works, but it didn't take all of it away but it help, how this happened idk

sounds like detonation as far as the plugs go.

is it rasp or a mix of drone and backfiring?my flowmaster would drone like hell at 2000rpm and pop when i left off.

Well i took the car out and the torque and horsepower is there like that, so if the TR55 add horsepower im buying stock in them lol

Its between 2500 and 2800 and its like a pop and glass pack sound, i've had flowmasters before and its not quiet that note

Xpipe is true duals. X will have no more or less rasp than an H, granted all else equal.

I prefer for a modern muscle car and xpipe. Hpipes are an old shool sound to me.

Also, sweet thunders bullets spirals etc all sound like add *imo compared to an actual muffler. Flowmaster one chamber gets my number one spot followed by borla xr1 which is a beat pricey. You can get knock off one chambers for around 40$ that sound identical to the real deal.

They are correct on bends.. The more the air hits each other from each header the more rasp.

your car sounds like it has glass packs because it has glass packs if you don't like the sound of glass packs then change your mufflers. also it would help if you put your car and mods in you sig so people don't tell you to buy catbacks that are for a f-body.

Who makes powerstick? Is it a bullet or a full bodied muffler?
