Default How to not get rasp?

I already have an SLP catback on my car right now and planning on buying some pacesetter long tubes, pacesetter ory, and an e-cutout.

I have been reading around here and sounds like I'm going to get horrible rasp. Is this true? If so, I'm not going to be happy at all because I cannot stand a raspy exhaust. So my question is, what are your suggestions for me to do so I don't end up with a raspy exhaust? Thanks in advance!

Eliminating rasp is a non-perfected science from what I understand. It has to do with air flow, resination, absorbtion of your exhaust, and temperature. My buddy removed his heat guards on his cats and removed his muffler completely on his T/A and it seemed to eliminate the majority of his rasp. I think by opening up your exhaust as much as possible, high flow cats, and having true duals will be your best chance of eliminating rasp. I would just go ahead and tell you to expect some regardless, kind of a nature of the beast.

Cats will kill the rasp, yes. If you want to run an ory use a different merge. Try that first and it might be enough to do the trick, if not, some ppl put a bullet muffler in the i-pipe.

A bullet muffler in the I-pipe is a cheap and easy solution. It does the trick if you run an ORP.

If I was going to try to "kill" rasp I would go with a bullet or something in the I-pipe. The catalytic converters are just to expensive to a person thats on a budget. Also, a good merge could help with rasp and maybe pick up some power.

The rasp is a fighter.

Wow thanks everyone for the quick replies I really appreciate it!

LS1WS6dreamer you hit it right on the head, I'm on a budget so high flow cats are out of the question.

I think I am going to go with a TSP ORY instead and use a bullet muffler. Here is another question that I feel dumb for asking, but what is an I-pipe? Haha, thanks again all!

I-pipe = intermediate pipe

It is the pipe that runs after the merge, over the axle and into whatever else you have out back (muffler, etc).

The i-pipe is the pipe that connects the merge to the rear muffler section.

I had horrible rasp with an ORY. Saved up and had a customer TD set up made with cat's, love my exhaust....But on a budget a decent bullet "should" do the trick.

Awesome thanks! So basically a bullet muffler in the i-pipe acts as a resonator? Also, do any of you have suggestions to what brand is a good bullet muffler?

I think Magnaflow makes one and Borla has something, maybe dynomax. I also read somewhere about a power pack or something. At the top right of the Gen 3 external engine forum there is a button that says "search this thread."
I'm not being a smartass about the search, but I don't know much about the bullet mufflers. There is something posted about them everyday so with search you can read til ya get sick!

good luck

Dynomax. A 4"x16" is all you need and it'll fit under the car in the I-pipe w/no problem.

Thanks all, I think I will be going with a bullet dynomax and see how that works out.

Do you mean 4" shell diameter by 16" shell length, or 4" shell diameter by 16" overall length? Sorry for all the questions, but thanks for all your time everyone!

Lol... You don't want rasp and you're going with a tsp y pipe.

Sub a flowmaster merge for that and you will be real close to eliminating your rasp... Add a bullet in the Ipipe and it should be virtually gone.

Fix the issue, change out that terrible merge, you'll not only eliminate most, if not all of the rasp, and possibly gain a few hp to. If there is still some rasp toss on a bullet.

Bullet muffler at this point is just a band-aid imo.

My magnaflow still has rasp... Because of the terrible kooks **** ory.

The muffler doesnt cause the rasp, it can increase or decrease it, but it is not the main culprit.

Flowmaster merge.. Iirc stainless works makes a nice piece also but I believe its around 110$?

For a buy and bolt up.. Pretty sure arh uses a decent y, still not the quality of flowmaster merge however.
