They say the heat sink ones are better. I have seen "truck coils" that just look like standard LS1 coils. There are others that are rounded and have the HS on them. It is very easy to see the difference. Depending on hp levels, they may show zero advantage.

Coming from a forced induction background I have some input on this. The factory LS1 coils are good to ~1000rwhp FI, the reg non HS truck coils are used on apps over 1Krwhp. I just switched from the regular vortec/mitsu truck coils to the newer HS coils. I made 1200rwhp and 1100rwtq w/o issues on the reg truck coils. I switched to the HS ones only due to the fact that we're shooting for 1800rwhp on e85 which at that power level would be nearly twice the fuel volume per cycle as gasoline.
For anything NA you won't see any improvement in performance over the factory LS1 coils. The truck coils have a higher output since trucks will see a MUCH higher load when towing trailers etc and need it to maximize sustained torque under these extreme loads. If they were of any benifit on NA or lower HP FI cars, GM would have slapped them on the newer vetts and ZR1.

I had done back to back pulls on a stock motor comparing stock LS1 coils to the heat-sinked truck coils. The motor gained 9.25 HP and 18.6 TQ. Others who've done the same have had varying results, some gained, some did not gain. SOTP measurements also showed a gain and better throttle response.
My opinion? Worth doing it.
